In 2014, Kim-Mai Cutler published her groundbreaking article, How Burrowing Owls Lead To Vomiting Anarchists (Or SF’s Housing Crisis Explained). We still think it is one of the most important pieces of prose written about the ongoing housing crisis in San Francisco and the Bay area. Just this year, the San Francisco Housing Action Coalition (SFHAC) honored Cutler at their Housing Heroes Awards for inspiring legions of grassroots activists.
A wonkish article like this, no matter how funny, or well written, is inherently limited to a smaller audience. Political cartoons, on the other hand, often reach a much wider audience. Cutler's incisive analysis deserves to reach as many readers as possible, given that our housing crisis is not limited to just this fair city. Now the SF Bay Area Metropolitan Observer (SF BAMO) is working with local cartoonist Kelsey Westphal to bring this project to life - but we need your help.

Risks and challenges
Art is hard work. This graphic novel adaptation will reach an estimated length of 110 pages, and though our brilliant illustrator Kelsey Westphal is indeed brilliant, full black-and-white inked pages come at a pace of 3 or 4 pages a day, and that's if she doesn't have to work side gigs anymore. please help us pay our artist to do full-time work as much as possible.
The sooner we can pay for art, the sooner this book will be in your hands. if we can't raise enough. Funding shortfalls will result in indefinite delays for the final release. That's just how the cookie crumbles.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
