WHAT ON EARTH IS A SEX CITY?
SEX CITY is a nine-part web series in development by Everything is Terrible!, the video collective responsible for some of the "most intriguing and horrifying viral videos in the Universe" according to a press release we wrote.
Mixing live-action and 3D-special-effects (!), Sex City is the story of two best friends who discover the pornography they buried in the woods as teenagers has grown into a full-fledged Sex City! Hailed as gods of this "glorious" civilization, the friends must choose between the real-world and their newfound paradise. Who will survive... and what will become of them?
WHO WOULD MAKE A SEX CITY?
EVERYTHING IS TERRIBLE!: From cat massages to pedophile-hunting yellow dinsoaurs, EIT! salvages the best VHS moments from thrift stores across the nation and posts their daily finds on the Internet for the world to see. Each year, the group edits thousands of these resurrected treasures into one mind-melting feature-length movie, the most recent being DoggieWoggiez! PoochieWoochiez!, where EIT! has elevated their craft to new heights by creating a remake of Alejandro Jodorowsky's 1973 masterpiece, The Holy Mountain, using only dog-related found footage!
In addition to their found-footage work, members of the group have developed a large catalog of original content over the past ten years -- including short films, animations, music videos and web-series. Highlights include:

GOOP OF THE GODS
DEPAUL UNIVERSITY: Our production enjoys full access to DePaul University's film equipment, including its lighting stage and production department, as the project will serve as the project will serve as the thesis for one of the group member's MFA degree. We have currently reserved a Red Epic camera during the course of our production, as well as the requisite professional lighting gear and sound equipment.
Most of our crew members are highly-talented graduates or current students from DePaul University's Digital Cinema program. All of our crew members, from grip to producer, has offered their time and energy without compensation, allowing us to funnel every cent of our modest budget into production (for which we are VERY grateful).
HOW DOES ONE ERECT A SEX CITY?
Sex City was generously granted a Project Bluelight this summer from DePaul University, which allowed our production to run a 10-week course of 30 animation students, all of whom spent their summer break in a computer lab helping "build" Sex City from the pixel up. The 3D-environments they created will serve as both a spatial reference while shooting scenes in front of a green screen and the basis for the completed environments that our live-action characters will be composited onto.
We have also spent the summer conducting a series of test shoots with the Red Epic at DePaul's green screen stage, in an effort to streamline our production and to prepare for any technical issues we may encounter during our shoot.
We have currently raised $1,500 through Project Bluelight and angel investors, and have applied for additional grant money that would help us meet our ultimate goal: $10,000. If that funding falls through, however, we are currently asking for the absolute minimum amount of money we would need to stay on schedule and eventually complete this project: $1,500.
Though much of "Sex City" is being created with computers and 3D modeling software, we still need to create, build, sew, glue, paint, drill, and drape a bunch of props we need some serious funding for. While we're not trying to make Transformers 8, you'd be surprised at how much a good-looking unicorn costume costs to make.
Principal photography will take place during two weeks in October, and we have recruited a large, dedicated crew to help us pull this off. Fortunately for us, they are offering their services pro-bono (because they believe in it, or something), but the least w can do is feed them during the course of an eight-hour day.
In an effort to keep our budget reasonable, we have successfully cut certain rental expenditures by selecting cost-free locations. Despite the small amount of "real" world locations, a good portion of our budget is going to stage rental, as we desperately need a dedicated and spacious green screen studio to complete the entire series, build set pieces, and accomplish special effects.
THE FUTURE OF SEX CITY
Presented in 5-minute episodes, the first series is presented in nine chapters, ending with an exciting cliffhanger, which will (hopefully) justify a return to the concept in some manner, be it another series, or even a feature film. Subsequent storylines are currently being mapped out for the immediate follow-up to this series, Escape From Sex City!
