Risks and challenges
I'm Robin Wyatt Dunn and this is my third feature length indie film, and my first in southern California. I've lived in California more than 17 years but only moved to the southern half in 2008 and it was for me, as it is for many, an eye-opening experience. This film is, in part, a product of my experiences in this half of the state. The film also expresses my share of the frustration that the whole planet has been feeling since the '08 crash.
I am fortunate to have a talented and shrewd producer on board, Sarah Kinga Smith, who brings her international business experience and Hungarian force of will to help this little baby golem breath in its first breaths.
Sarah has been producing films for six years in Budapest, London, and Los Angeles. In the last 3 years she started to work in development, finance and distribution on low budget projects. She currently lives in Los Angeles.
We're lucky to be assisted by veteran casting director Cherilyn Walker, who's an award winning performing arts teacher and actress. She has enjoyed a professional career in New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Diego, and Jacksonville. Cherilyn feels casting is second nature to her and is enjoying the challenge of weeding through so much amazing talent in LA.
We've put our project up on imdb (the movie bible you might say) --
The movie will be shot in Orange County with international talent attached. Our budget is very modest but we need your help to pay the expenses of our project, which include:
Fuel, Food, Videotapes, DVDs, and Festival Submission fees.
The film should end up about 75 minutes in length.
When's the last time you saw a movie that took on Hollywood? It happens, but not very often, and such films face a unique set of challenges, because Hollywood would prefer to remain in a peculiar whitewashed corner of the American mind, free of its Red-hunting history, free of the profound and inescapable crime syndicates that drive much of its business, free of the courtly politics that dictate, within LA's feudal fiefdom, what gets made and who gets to make it.
The interesting thing is that, as Nietzshe knew, if you stare into the abyss of Hollywood it does the same to thee, so I developed a renewed empathy within the love/ hate relationship I have with LA, and I hope this empathy helped me to tell a story that's critical, but fair. You can be the judge of that.
Every dollar we raise above our goal increases our ability to help this film get seen. We know we can make this film, but without your help, it will never get the exposure it deserves.
We expect to release AMERICAN MESSENGER no later than May 2014.
