Sesang is a film about existential freedom. A cinematographic meditation on in-between moments. The story of everyday lives of three people and their moments in time, raw emotions and seeming formal simplicity masking a complex episodic approach. Sesang is a film of dead ends and new beginnings, navigating different hemispheres and languages, in which time and space breathe and majestically unfold.
10 am JFK airport, Han Chul waits for Nari near the air-train. Han Chul is a documentary filmmaker visiting from Tokyo. Nari, a working actress who resides in NYC from Korea. The two reunite after a year apart. They once shared an intense romance, but after reuniting the moody couple quickly discover their differences. Sudden life-changing events shift the mood and atmosphere. The couple cross paths with Sergio, a hardworking cab driver, who works to provide for his family in Mexico. One afternoon, after a meeting with a friend, Sergio decides to take a different exit on the highway and journeys across the country.
ASIAN FILM PULSE Sesang Film Review by Colette Balmain
“Sesang is an extremely accomplished film which situates Jules Suo as one of South Korea’s emerging talents. Her understanding of the craft of filmmaking and storytelling ability as demonstrated by “Sesang” marks Suo out as a director to watch." ~ Colette Balmain
HANGUL CELLULOID Sesang Film Review by Paul Quinn
"Thematically rich and with narrative subtleties galore, with Sesang director Jules Suo uses what looks set to become her almost trademark long single takes and balance of handheld and static camerawork to frame an accomplished dissection of lives, relationships, hopes and dreams, complete with political undertones." ~ Paul Quinn
We have completed filming our feature film Sesang. We still need to complete post-production; sound correction and design, color correction and submit to film festivals. We’re confident that we can make a great feature film.
We plan on spending the funds on Post-Production, but it will cost quite a bit. This is where our Kickstarter funds will go.
Hello, I'm Jules Suo Writer and Director of Sesang. Up until now, I’ve been making this film very independently, directing/producing/shooting some scenes with the help of donated and heavily discounted time and equipment from incredibly generous friends who believed in me and the project. It's been a true labor of love for me, and despite all the struggles and roadblocks I've hit over the years, I've never doubted that it was worth it. I believe Sesang is an important film as told from Asian female director. I hope to inspire other Asian females to tell their stories.
If you’re interested in being a part of the journey in a more significant way, you might consider making a significant financial contribution beyond the rewards levels listed here. To make a tax-deductible contribution, you may donate to the project via our fiscal sponsor, Film Forum. For anyone interested in making a major contribution, we'd love to discuss ways to recognize you in our film's credits at the discretion of our producing team. Please don’t hesitate to reach out for more details.
OTHER WAYS TO GET INVOLVED
We need all the help we can get. Spread the word about the film and this fundraiser! We invite you to come on board our little email army and email this campaign URL (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sesangfilm/sesang-a-feature-film) to anyone you feel may be interested! You can also follow the campaign on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and then share posts directly to your page! Even just going to our Kickstarter page and hitting "Follow Project" helps in a huge way.
We are so grateful for any and all support!
Every single backer number helps in a HUGE way (even if it's for just $1 pledged)
1) Diversity in film isn't just an idea.
2) Stories that feed our culture belong in the industry our community defines our culture.
3) Filmmaking should be driven by artistic vision.
4) Because an independent film changed your life.
5) It's who you know shouldn't be the only option.
Not only is this an opportunity to view our trailer, but also a chance to aid immeasurably in the completion of a very special and deeply moving new film. We are raising $7000 in order to complete Sound Correction and Design, Color Correction, submit Sesang to film festivals - all so that the film can be ready for its exhibition on the festival circuit in February 2019.
As many of us already know, female filmmakers are still a minority and as a result, there are fewer female working behind the scenes. For female filmmakers of color the statistics are even more dismal.
The way Kickstarter works is all or nothing - so if we don’t reach our baseline goal by midnight (EST) Sunday October 21, we will see zero dollars from this campaign. Now is the moment to share SESANG with the world, and it’s a really exciting time for you to join us on the journey. Please help us out by contributing whatever you can, and please tell your friends!

Risks and challenges
Sesang convinced me that a film can be made with a small cast and crew. It can be made! A functioning model, in other words, for the way feature-length film, like this one, can be made.
However, SESANG cannot be made without a band of advocates—that is, without the guidance and good faith of people who share not only our excitement for this film and its future, but who recognize that there are alternatives to commercial cinema in this country that require special, continuous attention and care.
Your support will contribute to independent filmmaking, by which that's independent of traditional sources of film financing, big studio commercial production houses.
With your help, we can finally complete post production!
I have no doubt we can make this dream a reality but it won’t be without your help.
We hope you will not only help us by donating whatever you can, but spreading the word and raising awareness about our project.
Thank you so much for your support!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
