Unbound: Worlds Apart is an atmospheric hand-crafted platformer, sprinkled with mind-bending multi-dimensional puzzles!
The Demo is available for Windows OS. Linux and Mac OS versions will be available when the game launches on May 2020.
Explore beautiful, hand-crafted worlds. Solve puzzles by summoning magical portals. Beware monsters and traps and outsmart them all using the wisdom of your ancestors and the power of your portals!
Unbound is a single player journey that will take you from the most amazing and serene landscapes to the horrific world of evil and despair.
This atmospheric platformer will challenge you with puzzles every step of the way. Soli has the power to conjure magical portals that connect various worlds and interact with the unique physical properties of each contrasting dimension.
Unbound: Worlds Apart is a creative multi-dimensional puzzle-platformer. Using his unique powers, Soli can conjure portals to alternate dimensions, where the laws of physics are unlike our own and where time, space and gravity work in unexpected ways.
This portal affects and transforms everything and everyone around you. Beware of the innocent creatures - they might have evil lurking within them...
This portal inverts the laws of gravity. Up becomes down; down becomes up.
This portal gives you the power to move mountains... literally!
This portal will light your way in the dark.
This portal allows you to you run faster and jump higher. Not only will it help you solve an array of challenges, it's also a lot of fun!
Using these portals is central to both exploring the world and solving the conundrums that stand in Soli’s way. Rather than presenting a linear path from left to right, Unbound’s environments are sprawling and intertwining. The player can find his way only by summoning portals and solving the puzzles.
Soli will also need to use these portals to evade the myriad traps and monsters that inhabit the various worlds of Unbound. You’ll need to be smart, agile and logical in order to defeat the evil once and for all.
Unbound: Worlds Apart is a dark fairy tale about magic, mystery and destiny.
In Unbound: Worlds Apart, players take on the role of Soli. Soli is the only one who can look evil in the eye and remain untainted - so the power of the portals has been given to him and him alone.
Venture on a journey through beautiful, hand-crafted, dark fairy tale environments, as Soli learns more about a horrible catastrophe that has descended on his world, seeking ways to challenge and - ultimately - defeat the evil once and for all.
Unbound: Worlds Apart is a dark fairytale and we wanted to choose an art style to suit the mood of the game.
We wanted the player to get a real sense of Soli’s world and how it has been ravaged by evil and to present the game in a way that felt both magical and foreboding.
The whole game has been lovingly hand-crafted, with every detail meticulously developed to create a sense of place.
Music and sound design is by Cosmin Mirza, a very talented freelance composer that has helped a number of fellow indie game developers here in Romania and abroad.
Here you can listen to the first theme of the soundtrack:
We began work on Unbound in August 2016, when we started prototyping an idea we’d had surrounding portal mechanics that could switch the player between different worlds.
In early 2017, with our core gameplay established, we began to flesh out the art direction of the game - and after a few months of iteration, we landed on our current hand-crafted 2D style.
In those early days, all of our work was completed in our free time, outside of working full-time jobs. But as Unbound began to take shape, we knew that it could only fulfill its potential if we poured everything into it. So, in June 2018, we took the plunge, quit our jobs, rented some office space and started working full-time on the game.
Unbound is currently around 50% of the way to completion. We’re delighted with the way it’s shaping up, but there is a long way to go - more content to be added, more balancing and polishing to be done - on our journey toward presenting a truly exceptional indie game to our backers and supporters.
Unbound: Worlds Apart is developed by a core team of two. We are Alien Pixel Studios, a small but ambitious team based in Bucharest, Romania.
Sergiu Craitoiu is the programmer and game designer and Olga Ciob is the artist. Between us we have over 20 years of experience in working in video games industry. That sounds like a lot, but really we’re just warming up!
We have past experience in developing independent projects from scratch to finish and publishing smaller titles on various different gaming platforms. We know we have what it takes - but we also know from experience that we have our work cut out for us!
We also have some amazing outside help in areas beyond our own expertise, like video production from Alex Parlea and music Cosmin Marza.
Another special "Thank you" goes to Svyat Ilin for providing us with an amazing melody played in background of our video pitch.

Running a Kickstarter campaign comes with risks and requires a great deal of work, but we think it makes a lot of sense for several reasons.
Since we started working on Unbound, we were determined to show our baby to anyone who’d look at it! So we set about heading to every gaming conference and event that we could feasibly afford.
We love to talk with other gamers. We saw Unbound played, loved and criticized… Every piece of feedback meant a lot to us and we have put time and immense effort into making our game better and better every time.
Along the way, we realized that our community was key in what made not only our game better, but us better, as designers and developers. It made us realize just how crucial engaging with our players is going to be as we work toward the completion of Unbound.
With this Kickstarter campaign, we hope to engage with our players and backers even more closely and with all the feedback and suggestions we are expecting to receive, to make a truly great game that will be worthy of the time spent both making and playing it!
In community we trust!
The project was entirely self-funded until the first gasp of “financial” aid came in 2018, when the awesome guys from Unreal Engine awarded us with one of their development grants.
This grant meant much more than money to us. It gave us some validation, it gave us an enormous burst of confidence and it gave us the stamina we needed to keep improving our game.
The money couldn’t have come at a better time. We managed to cover some of the development costs - i.e. food and shelter - for a period of time. But sadly, even that wasn’t quite enough. We still have a long road ahead of us, which is why we’re here asking for your help.
Kickstarter Money Split

We would be thrilled and super humbled if you could help the development of the game in any way you can: back the project, join our Discord, tell a friend, share it or play the demo!
We started developing this game three years ago and since then it has been one hell of an amazing ride! This game is 100% passion.
Our goal is to deliver a unique game with interesting mechanics, with a beautiful art style and unique puzzles - let's make it happen together! Thank you.
Risks and challenges
We have been working on Unbound for more than two years now and we have already overcome many of our biggest obstacles. Still, we know that there is a long road ahead of us.
Game development always bears certain risks and there will always be unexpected problems which may delay the release of the game. But we are planning very carefully and doing everything we can to avoid that outcome.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
