Greens are incredible, they're healthy and they're edible! Since my mother (Victoria Boutenko) popularized green smoothies in 2004 with her book "Green For Life" I have encountered a plethora of people who transformed their bodies and their health by regularly consuming homemade green drinks. After what I've seen over the last decade, I am beyond convinced that green smoothies benefit everyone who chooses to consume them regularly. Now I want to find out what effect these same blended concoctions will have on seemly healthy, endurance athletes. Thus far nobody has attempted to conduct any such experiment and I'm about to change that. I plan to put a half dozen extremely athletic people on a two-month green smoothie challenge and film the entire shebang. Then I'm gonna share my findings with the world!
I'M SO CURIOUS...
From my interactions with hardcore athletes in my community I've observed that while many of them have specific beliefs about exercise, few seem to consider the importance of a good diet. Practically none of the sportspersons I know eat in a manner that I consider to be healthy. Many of them drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes. When I first announced at the local running store that I wanted to film a documentary about green smoothies and ultra runners, people chuckled and were skeptical that my experiment would produce a positive shift in the health, performance, and endurance of runners. I predict that the benefits my participants are going to gain will be off the charts.
DOCUMENTARY IN FULL SWING
Several months back my feet hit the pavement and I began gathering people for my film. I now have several ultra runners, cyclists, and cross-fitters that are ready and willing to drink at least one quart of fresh green smoothie every single day religiously for two months. I’ve invited a licensed medical doctor to help me oversee and monitor this experiment. I’ve also negotiated with two local farms to supply me with a steady stream of their freshest, organic fruits and greens. Now all I need is the funds to start this project.
This film is my baby and thus, I will be overseeing the entire production personally. I have over seven years of videography experience and have the know-how to complete this project. I own $40,000 worth of professional video, audio, and lighting equipment, which will allow me to shoot, edit, and produce this film to the current HD standard. Owning my own equipment is a HUGE plus that will help keep my costs down.
That said, I know I won't be able to do everything myself. I will need to assemble a crew of professionals to help me with this project. Luckily, Southern Oregon is not short on quality film production crews. I am a member of the Southern Oregon Film and Television Association and plan to put together a team from their network of talented individuals. I also have several close friends who work in the film industry who are willing to assist me from time to time.
To make this project possible I need a minimum of $20,000. This money will be used to cover productions costs, pay my crew, buy quality ingredients for smoothies, reimburse transportation fees, cover the costs of medical exams and blood tests, and compensate the doctor for his time. Once the film has been shot and edited, more money will be spent on graphic design, printing, promotion, and distribution.

I promise that partaking in this documentary will be fun and rewarding for everyone! I will do my best to capture all events as they happen in the most beautiful, most authentic way possible. I will document all stages of this experiment in such a way that the viewers will be able to make their own conclusions.
WORLD PREMIERE AND MORE
I plan to shoot this movie in August and September of this year. After that I will buckle down and edit into the New Year. Hopefully, Powered By Green Smoothies will first premiere at the Ashland Independent Film Festival in April of 2014. From there I plan to share my movie with the world. I will show my film at various film festivals, distribute the film online, and finally put it up on Netflix.

Risks and challenges
My main challenge in this project will be to ensure that all the participants actually drink smoothies daily. If they don’t intake their quart of green smoothie everyday we will not see any changes and / or improvements and the study will be skewed. To combat this, I’ve been proactive and have interviewed my candidates thoroughly to make sure they are not only willing, but are excited about this venture. To keep them interested, I plan to check in with them often, provide them with literature, videos, and other information about health benefits of chlorophyll, and stage group discussions about everything that’s going on.
We might encounter other hardships while filming and editing this movie such as accidents, equipment malfunctions, data loss, or people wanting to quit this experiment, but I’m ready to embrace and navigate any and all difficulties.
