If anyone still cares.
Are there any updates you can give us?
i assume its dead, but could we maybe get something, anything?
Has anyone thought about a law suit? I recently read an article about this.
Kickstarter doesn't/can't do anything about it, but a backer successfully claimed a law suit against a project creator, who took the money and didn't finish the priject. His pledge was about 50$, so nothing big.
It's not about the money, but about creators just taking the money without giving us any infos or intending to actually finish the project.
The twisted thing is the creator logged in as recently as July 11. I've reported this project. I don't expect to ever see this one completed.
My Kickstarter Spotlight series, wherein I discussed my thoughts on this game: https://www.youtube.com/watch…
Anyone got ANY news at all? Also, who here has filed a complain?
Hi again! Any news?
I'm currently backing a few different things and my mind wandered to this project to see if there was any news I've missed. I'm bummed at the handful of comments I see.
This was my first PnP project I backed. When it was in the funding stage, I walked a tightrope on RpOL to try and spread the word about it. The setting still strikes me as fresh along with other aspects too. I counted myself as lucky for being one of the few who would receive the first supplement gratis as a reward for having faith and backing this while it was a dream. There's a tiny part of me that still does. My contribution was small though or I'd probably feel something more than a little blue.
I don't know how often you posted or mailed in the past, Neal, or the substance of those missives beyond the one shared here. I feel like most of it is justified. The parts toward the end feel a little harsh but given your vigilance in trying to communicate I won't judge beyond that passing impression. I'm sure there are others who wouldn't have bothered to try walking any tightrope of civility.
Seraphina, if you read this by any chance, this is how I feel:
Please keep going. It's a project worth finishing. I have no idea what troubles you may be having but I hope they may abate for both the sake of completion and your well-being. I do not use Twitter or I would field this entreaty to you in a more active capacity. If you read this and what precedes it, the guiding sentiment, without rancor, really is that I would just like to see this whole and in the intervals between then and now, a word about the progress. Even if it should be peppered with the pitfalls too. I hope you take this in the spirit that it's meant.
Who's going to help? How do you file a complaint with KS?
NO REWARDS YET!
Wonder if it will be a year before the next update. This is ridiculous!
Is it too late to report fraud? I'm only partly serious, I only wasted $10, but those of you who wasted a lot more should consider doing something about it.
You are assuming that she is actually checking the site. You might have better luck asking through PM or trying to contact her in twitter.
Seraphina Brennan please post an update on this project. Last update was July and that is a ridiculous amount of time since you last posted.
I check in occasionally. Why, I don't know.
I still stop by from time to time. If the creator does, then the creator doesn't seem to care enough to post.
Is anybody here?
I think in some ways, Seraphina may hold me responsible for her lack of progress. After her Jul 20th update, I posted a comment:
"How does it go from 2 and 1/2 weeks until the books is ready to almost a month and no book?"
To which I got a PM:
You know, I saw your comment today. I don't know what I should say to you. In fact, for the last few months, I'm not sure I ever truly know what to say to you. I don't think any amount of apologies are ever going to please you... nor status updates... nor game information.
Now before you rip into me because the book isn't done, let me say this: I'm aware of that. I get to live with that nightly. I come home from work, I make my dinner, and during it I get to sit there and think about how much of a trainwreck my favorite project has become. I go to sleep, and it's always the last thing on my mind before I go to sleep. Always. And, finally, after just getting my groove back and making a pretty damn good amount of headway and starting to get back into regular updates... I get another one of your comments.
If your point is to make me feel pressure to make this book faster. It's really not working, and probably working against you. If your point is to make me feel accountable, I can guarantee that you cannot beat the dreams I have at night. And if your point is to just belittle me... well... yeah, that's certainly happening.
I'm sorry your frustrated. And if there is anything I can do for you beyond just getting the book done, let me put my foot down and say that I will be more than happy to do it."
My response to this was:
"It was not my intent to belittle you.
I'll explain my position. Yours is one of several of the 100 plus projects that I have backed on Kickstarter that has not delivered. Thanks to the anonymity of the Internet and the risky nature of Kickstarter projects, it is easy for creators to turtle up and disappear. And many backers are just as willing to let this happen. And, for backers, that is wrong to allow. This has been discussed on podcasts such as The Bear Swarm and Happy Jacks.
I'm tired of not seeing progress. When you say 2.5 weeks, it makes me think that the project is in layout, the text is done and edited.
At this point, I'm not interested in hearing about the creative process. Perhaps I would have been interested in that when the project was still in the funding stage but now that it is overdue, all I want to see is the project. Copying and pasting a section into and update gives me no idea of where the project is in terms of completion.
If you want to improve my faith in this project, show me screen caps of the laid out pages. Post sections of the book that are completed now, and not the mechanics section you sent out several months ago.
This is about having given money for something that I thought was a good idea and not seeing the return on it."
The last thing I saw from Seraphina was a day or two ago when the @avariceind account on Twitter posted an apology for some tweets and that it had been hacked.
Seraphina continues to post on Twitter at @sera_brennan
So should I just write off the 300 bucks I donated? Never got any swag, updates have trickled down to nothing. Very disappointed.
Update please. Last one was July 20th. That is 44 days since the last update.. Not cool!
Not worst (see Dwimmermount, Doom That Came to Atlantic City and any Nystul project) but gaining some ground.
Worst ks ever, such a joke at this point. Unfollowed.
Hi team AI. I sincerely would like to see this game at some point, I backed because I thought it was awesome and brought something fresh to the gaming world. I'm sure others did too. It would really be awesome to know where we stand. Also, if my backer gifts could just be sent that would be nice. Thanks guys!
Sent off another tweet @sera_brennan. No response so far.
Try sending her messages on twitter.
So this is basically dead and abandoned , isn't it?
Hello? Any creators of Avarice out there? Hello?
I sent Seraphina a tweet on May 21st. She said she was going to give an update with the promised art sample THIS past week. Still nothing.
Now a year overdue and with extremely poor communication. Congratulations, you have joined the ranks of Far West, Technoir, and Powerchords in being way overdue.
I mean this with all sincerity: are you guys still out there?
Since I've signed up here at KS, I've been sucked into the PnP world again and my stomach along with wallet is slightly emptier for it (probably for the best for me tummy). This was the first one to snare me and it has a funkiness along with a seeming flexibility that contortionists would envy. Don't fade off :(
@Chris Snyder at least you go your mug.. I haven't gotten a response back either.
I think at this point, I think I'm just going to assume the game isn't coming. The mug was cool though :)
Do you happen to have the twitter account name?
Neal, I spoke to Seraphina via Twitter a few days ago. Seems like some writer's block is going on. She said she would put up a proper update at some point explaining the writer's block. I guess she forgot. I suggest trying getting a hold of her on Twitter.
So do any other backers care that there hasn't been an update? I sent a PM to Seraphina about 3 days ago and still no response. And no way to contact her through the Avarice Industries website, either.
Uhhhh...it's been about a month since you said you were going to post an update after you came back from the holidays. Any updates?
I agree, Thomas. I'll be in Pitt in a few days to meet with Xavier. We're going to post an update then.
Just a note asking if you could update us on this project. I'm still looking forward to it with great enthusiasm.
Oh, glorious updates! *gorges on his email update with a manic gusto* Thanks for the update Seraphina!
Yeah, this is becoming a bit silly. Where is the game?
Has anyone heard anything at all about the status of the game?
Funding reached on March 21st (and reached well over the required amount!) .... now the 3rd of November and I still don't have a digital copy of the book or my mug. Come on guys, can you at least give us an update on what's happening?
You know what I've got in my hands? An Avarice Industries t-shirt and mug! Whoot!
I'm sure you guys are tremendously busy, but do you have any updates available for us starving masses?
How goes development?
