Have a question?
The minis are going to be in the 40mm range. We are going to keep the enemies as die cut standees. In the future we may offer them as minis but to keep the costing at a fair level for this campaign only the main player characters, the Man in Black, the allies, and the enemy commanders will be offered as minis. The price point will be the same $80 as last campaign. Even though costs have risen we have found new factories to work with that have allowed us to lower our overall goal by reducing the minimum order we need to place and still keep component quality and piece count the same.
(When I say enemies, I’m referring to the standees, not Commanders)
* Can you guys remind me what scale/mm the minis are?
* Will there be sculpts for enemies?
* Is the pricepoint about the same as last campaign?
We love you Ian! It's as if you are the other shared brain cow head because you always seem to know when we are about to do another big update. The next update will be dropping before the end of the month. We are getting our reviews back, the web site is getting a complete make over, the videos are being made, new artwork is out and about, and we have been working conventions like mad cows! In fact all of February is booked solid for events! SAVE THE DATE! Feb 28th is when we are coming back to Kickstarter. In the mean time...check us out on Facebook (also Instagram and Twitter) we have lots to see there. You want to see us do a blind playthrough of the long campaign mode with humans and "felted friends" (they don't like to be called puppets) we got that covered. Also, because Kickstarter does not let you announce contests, we have NO contests going on. *wink wink*. CMON will always have some cool games out but The Cow loves you! ;)
I still want to give you money.
CMON is eating into my conspiracy budget. :(
How are you doing? :) We are going to release our next news letter and an update on Monday. As a little preview though, and to answer your question, we have been busy going out to conventions and play testing all summer and have more lined up through end of Oct (at IndieCade this weekend working on Twitch Con and two days at Stan Lee's Comic Con then short holiday break and more after that). We took to heart everything everyone said during our campaign and have been working hard to build a community, refine play time, get everything finished 100%, and make this a solid well played version of the game. We are working with reviewers now to get the videos and comments done by launch. The minis will be 100% complete by launch this time and we are getting our "stretch goal tree" and some other fun things in line. As for the relaunch date, it will be February 2018. We were aiming for this Fall but to do it right Feb was the date we felt was the best. Everyone we have met is a new friend and we want to make sure we have earned that friendship this time. Look forward to some comment section fun with you at relaunch! All the best! :)
Any update on the new launch? I want to give you money. :3
Those are all great points and we are working on them for the relaunch. We have been collecting playtest footage, working with our playtesters for feedback and comments we can use for the campaign, and working more with the BGG board and others for a more interactive pre/during campaign presence. We are leaving in a few hours for GenCon and are super excited to do more playtesting, meet with manufacturers, distributors, etc to get our goal numbers to where they need to be. Maybe sometime this year we will get to take a nap. Haha!
We really appreciate all the feedback! Best wishes and have a fantastic week/weekend...and beyond! :)
So yeah AUD and they got $55k looking for $70k AUD. Which is about $43k USD, under half your original goal.
Illuminatus goal was $70,000. They did well but felt short by about 10K. Can't recall if that was AU$ or USD
Cheers for the newsletter update, I'm really looking forward to the Fall Kickstarter relaunch. Have a great GenCon 50.
Do try and grab some video interviews of play tester impressions, the Epoch: The Awakening campaign included a compilation of play testers comments which was very useful. Before you launch again, you can also get us old timers and newsletter subscribers to comment on the beta-campaign page, and for any other advice, which you are free to ignore.
Also we can coordinate a BGG community, FAQ, forum etc to help spread buzz and generate community drive which is invaluable and 24 hrs rather than you 3 being limited to USA times.
Ummmm. Aaaand. We need to aim to reduce the initial amount for the campaign to a realistic goal, which you can then build on by adding stretch goals, component upgrades etc. I've funded a couple other conspiracy based games specifically Illuminatus which failed again probably due to the high initial amount set for the project. Cut stuff out, add in as a stretch goal or add on, which generates more funding and therefore progress is visible to others on Kicktraq. Clicking the Kicktraq project link to Kickstarter bumps the project on the Hotlist. Similarly BGG. Phew. Ok. Have a great GenCon 50
Further encouragement: I wanted to recommend the generation of pre-relaunch buzz, using the services of such YouTube channels as Tantrum House, Man Vs Meeple, and by spreading the word on BGG. I think the original campaign suffered from a lack of visibility and general awareness in the gamer community and hence didn't draw the attention and funding the game deserves.
On another note- did anyone notice that the real actual genuine US Patent for the TR3B triangular space craft has been released and is available via Google..? Search TR3B on YouTube. Much love.
I think we have learned that the Grey don't have credit cards or back Kickstarter campaigns. We did overestimate their spending power. We have learned our lesson. ;)
We have underestimate the power of the Grey. ;)
HAHAHA.....Thanks Stavros! :) We will relaunch.
Kickstarter said we should post an encouraging message. This is the message. It is encouraging.
You guys know we love you. Even though Mikey they Goatboy smells.
Such a pity I only saw this now..:(
A big thank you to everyone who supported and offered great advise! We will take all the suggestions to heart and be back later this year with a stronger campaign. We look forward to seeing you all again in the future and we have had a great experience meeting you all and running this campaign (even if it did not hit it's goal this time). Thank you again! :)
I just found out about this today through an add link on BGG- I don't know how long those adds were running but it worked to pull me in. I pledged to show my support and hope you guys get it funded in a future campaign. One thing I noticed is that there were no files on BGG. I'd recommend having rules up and a video or two before the next Kickstarter. Best wishes!
Thanks everyone for the support and advice!
We look forward to the comeback campaign. Rusted Portal is happy to help out in whatever way we can. You've got us on all the social places, happy to collaborate. We would love to see this madness kick on the next go!
Backing to show my support for the strangeness at the midnight hour. Game looks great--one of the key things to dig deeper in are the scenarios/world/story and the characters. (There's probably enough material here to include an RPG as well-bonus!)
The pulpy goodness deserves a close-up update on each character with some narrative. (I'm not a big CMON fan but that's what drew me into SMOG.) When we're buying minis, we're really buying a world, so the world/story should be told in numerous updates.
Thinking of possible stretch goal content for the relaunch...
A 'tall white' reptilian Draco enemy epic boss with figure, escape somehow in a captured ship, the Phil Schneider tribute as discussed before, tunnel boring machine garage hmm might be handy vehicle to escape in too, various types of ships, both captured and reverse engineered human types (I'm looking at you, black triangle craft!).
@Greg: Rising Sun was a megacampaign with a big established fanbase for both the publisher and the game designer. I think a more analogous campaign for these guys to look at would be Giga-Robo - uknown first-time designer with a niche genre product who still managed to knock it out of the park.
I really just want the cow's wearing hats miniatures. THAT would get funded pretty damn quickly.
Shame... I hope, you'll find a way to relaunch at one point... Look's cool, but people don't get in....
Talking of other bases than Dulce, have any of you conspiracy heads checked out the 3 mile diameter object which appears to be meandering across the Pacific ocean floor? It's left a trench around 40 miles long and seems to be consuming minerals and resources. Spotted on Google earth maps, the video is linked here... The discovery is referred to from about 3:40.
I'm hoping that with the modest success of this campaign you will be encouraged to do another campaign which is better planned and structured with a much, much lower goal and a well developed stretch goal ladder. That helps engage people so that they really feel involved in the game as it expands towards retail. Lots and lots of stretch goals. I mean - refer to the Rising Sun campaign. Or Deep Madness. I want to play this game, and I also think it could be a useful tool for awakening gamers to the absolute reality of the secret space programme, ET's, deep underground military bases, suppressed patents and exotic technologies. Like a soft disclosure tool. Also there's a ton of expansion possible. Best wishes for future projects
Hi guys! I know this ain't gonna fund, but I decided to pledge anyway just as a show of support for strangeness!
And don't get me started on the 'Men in Black.' There is a couple of great docs on the subject on YouTube. The comedian/actor Dan Aykroyd gives a very vivid account of a run-in with one of them. And there is great footage of supposedly real MIB's caught on surveillance footage at a hotel in Canada. You can't out nerd The Cow Team on the weird and strange ;) We love it!
Yep. And there is supposedly one off of Point Dume in Malibu, CA. That Catalina site could explain the infamous "Battle of Los Angeles" in 1942.
What about the one off of Malibu? Really it's just an underwater ridge but it sure looks like a base!
Yeah but what about the underwater base off Catalina?
@Ian Me too! That's how all this started. Dulce Base is much more interesting than Area 51. Ya, think?
Yeah, I'm aware. I'm a conspiracy, paranormal and unexplained mystery nerd. ;)
Have any you guys actually googled Dulce Base? It is supposedly a real place. A spooky place of nefarious science.
We just made some adjustments with our Combat Tracker from advice given by awesome fans like yourself at our last demo. I can't wait for you guys to play this game. It really makes initiative and combat more streamlined. Our game play is super solid. The Encounter Card system makes for great replay value, and you can also play solo with two characters.
@ Ian Thanks for the well wishing and the points. We take all feedback to heart. The community has been awesome. About the comment section, we answer people usually within minutes of questions, and the last update unlocked all the stretch goals. We just had two more pledges in the last few hours. Things are good, my man. We have a great, unique game and we are learning everyday. The Cow loves ya!
Well, I wish you guys luck if you re-launch... I hope you'll consider some of the points I sent to you previously.
Also, not a criticism, but backer rentention might be better if there were more interaction here. There's been very few updates, and this comment section has become a morgue. There's been a lot of activity in your Twitter and Facebook feeds, but not here. Spread the wealth, maybe?
Grain of salt... just trying to help.
@Michael, Yes, I think we need to change the 2-6 players at this point. It can be solo'd but you need to play two characters. The later levels will present a challenge for sure. Being Dark Souls/Demon Souls fans we love a good challenge but didn't want to make it that hard. I do terrible die rolls so I die a lot in games anyway. :)
The Cow doesn't quit! We will soldier on what ever happens and we will make this a reality! Thank you for your kind words and support. :)
Hey! One of my main criterias for games is the ability to play solo. I passed this first time when I saw it said 2 to 6 players then somehow I saw it again and decided to take a closer look - oh! It can be solo'd!
Perhaps make that more apparent somewhere?
Anyway do soldier on and definitely do consider a second run should (hopefully not!) this campaign get vaporized by aliens!
@Alex, We have been on some subreddits but they have a "no self promotion" policy (which I understand otherwise it would be glutted with ads) but please PM us if there is something we have misunderstood about posting.
Has anyone tried posting this to different subreddits?
@Stavros, Hahaha. I understand that feeling sometimes. We wish you could be there too. Maybe one day we will travel the world doing table top days and you can join in then. :)
Wish I could go to these tabletop day things I always read in kickstarters about. They sound fun. On the other hand, I never seem to go to the tabletop things near me - more likely though because I know too many of the people there and am always thinking "I've been seeing you lot all year, give me a break this Sunday" :)
This last day has been great! FYI...The Cow will be at NextGen Games here in sunny Los Angeles for Table Top Day Apr. 29th. We will be running three time slots of Escape from Dulce at 4pm, 5pm, 6pm.
@Nick LPH I am always sober, when I'm not drinking.
Professor scientist you sober? Threw all game? Lies is strong with this one ;)
@Professor Scientist Yes I did watch it, it was funny in a good way. I like your stubbornness, if you really want to see this through the end it's ok, just in the meantime think about a new campaign and at how you can do it better.
May the force be with you!
@Ugo Never tell me the odds - Han Solo ;)
I get where you are coming from, I really do. We are going to finish what we started and see what happens. I do appreciate your concern. You are always welcome on these boards. Did you watch the play through video? I was sober through the entire thing.
