What is Sensly?
Sensly is a portable pollution sensor capable of detecting the air pollution levels using its onboard gas sensors to collect information about the various gases present. This information can be fed directly to your smartphone for real time push notification updates. Sensly uses industrial sensors that assure an accurate reading of the office, home, or work environment and can be powered by either a battery or from the mains using a micro usb lead. Being aware of this data helps you to take action and bring the pollution levels down around you. It could be as serious as...
- Detecting a carbon monoxide leak in your home and alerting your smart device about it, and allowing you to take the necessary precautions
Sensly is there to protect you.
There are many pollution issues in cities and we want to use Sensly to help address and make people aware of them. London suffers heavily from pollution.
In areas such as Hackney, pollution levels are 50% above the EU limit.
In 2008, there were 4,300 premature deaths in London that were attributed to long-term exposure to dangerous airborne particles.

Sensly Can Detect
Sensly’s software integrates deeply into the device. All you need to do is connect your Sensly to the internet and watch the data stream to your device. With our mobile app or web interface you can view data from one or more devices you own or see environmental data other people have chosen to share.
With intelligent alerts you sensly will send you a notification when spikes in gases are detected and give you reports on how your environment has changed over time.

Our team is also a big fan of the Raspberry Pi mini computer. We're really keen to help the Raspberry Pi community develop their own Sensly device and start working on experiments whilst learning about different types of gases.

Producing the software for the Sensly, Frazer is the mind behind the product; working constantly since its conception to create the final working product.
Aaron Shaw– Chief Operations OfficerWorking alongside the suppliers and manufacturers, Aaron makes sure all deliveries are met on time. Experienced within the Raspberry Pi community and in product design, Aaron has played a key role in developing the Sensly into what it is today.
Jason Sharman– Electronics Engineer Designing the components board for the Sensly, Jason has also been working hard to construct the Raspberry Pi version of the Sensly.
Louis Reed – Graphic & Web Design
The web and media designer, Louis is in charge of designing and building our websites and apps. He also works on the graphic and 3D design.

Risks and challenges
We have worked to mitigate the potential risks as much as possible. We have links to a variety of suppliers. We have a working prototype and the software is designed to take updates easily. The PCB design is already finalised and tested and is working well.
We have quotes from a variety of suppliers for both PCB manufacture and assembly. We have 3D printers to print out the case designs.
