Cyclist Raincoat is a breathable, lightweight overcoat ideal for cycling. An everyday essential, determined to be the minimalist techwear item of your wardrobe.
Using state-of-the-art technology melded with a simple utilitarian design, the unisex Cyclist Raincoat is effortless to use - on and off any two-wheeler, protecting against all elements in all seasons. Some call raincoats the Tupperware of the modern wardrobe, but we can change this perception if you join our journey and support our campaign.
senscommon introduces Cyclist Raincoat - a new unisex classic for urban living.
Durable and super-light overcoat that keeps you warm and dry as well as delivering on safety while commuting in the city. Cyclist Raincoat is light and compact, enabling us to deliver it to you in a flat A4 envelope and offer free worldwide shipping.
Leg Protection: Push-button system ensures that Cyclist Raincoat can be fastened around your legs to keep your lower body dry.
Lightweight Technology: Technological fabric allows for a durable, entirely seam-taped, waterproof, wind-resistant yet breathable raincoat. It weighs only 400 g (14 oz) and comes with its own watertight pouch.
Clear Side Vision: Special hood design provides excellent peripheral vision making you feel confident in traffic.
Safety In Traffic: Black reflective print on the back of the sleeves - subtle during the day yet providing optimum safety at night.
Cyclist Raincoat appears casual yet is truly high performance due to the fabric we have developed with Koojoo, a specialised manufacturer of advanced textiles. A custom melange weave of 57% nylon, 43% polyester, finished with a waterproof, windproof yet breathable coating that allows your body heat to evaporate. How watertight is it? The hydrostatic head of this fabric is 5000 mm, and ensures optimum coverage on your daily commute.
Our partners at Koojoo added an inner wax finishing and air-brushed our fabric in order to create an atypically soft feel to the inside of the coat. Cyclist Raincoat will be lasercut, bonded, sewn and entirely seam-taped by our producer Tekosom, a Gore-Tex Gold Level Partner, in their factory in Gdansk. The colour has been custom made for senscommon, weaving dark grey and black yarn together, resulting in a monochrome fabric with a marl effect.
Koojoo and Tekosom are large scale producers, therefore very strict on their minimum order quantities. To make our Cyclist Raincoat a reality, we need to meet their requirements. This is why senscommon needs you on board!
Using the pedalling motion as a starting point, we designed an adjustable fit to accommodate a wide range of movements. A push-button fastening system enables the wearer to move freely while staying dry from head to knees, preventing the coat from flying around or blowing up in strong winds.
Not bad, right? For the active lifestyle or your daily commute, Cyclist Raincoat offers a truly innovative solution for a dry, comfortable and safe ride in bad weather.
You can also wear Cyclist Raincoat fastened when you’re not cycling, as it ensures coverage even in strong winds.
Cyclist Raincoat has raglan sleeves, designed especially for the forward held arm position whilst cycling. The sleeve length is longer than usual and has a unique “step cuff” that protects the top of your hand without obstructing the bicycle handles.
Cyclist Raincoat is probably the most protective raincoat, yet it is never in your way - that means a safe ride for you and the people around you.
Unlike most raincoat hoods, Cyclist Raincoat has a hood that doesn’t limit your view. You can confidently ride in city traffic as you won’t have the fear of not seeing when you turn your head around. The cap of the hood is constructed with a stiff bonding layer typically used in sailing raincoats. That way it resists folding up or flapping in the wind.
It hasn’t been that long since black reflective ink has been used within the garment industry. As such, we incorporated a subtle elbow-patch outline print on the back of each sleeve. Its placement signals your turns to those behind you. Discreet during daytime but with strong reflective properties in the dark.
The common problem with rainwear or rain accessories is that most of the time we forget them or are discouraged to bring them along.
With that in mind, we worked towards the lightest result possible. senscommon challenged our manufacturer and managed to adapt our custom 104 g/m2 fabric to the production techniques usually used for much heavier fabrics.
Cyclist Raincoat is 400g (14 oz) light, easily fits in its own flat watertight pouch (22 cm x 28 cm / 8.6″ x 3.1″) so you can carry it in your bag without worrying about anything else getting wet.
With Cyclist Raincoat, we struck a perfect balance between a masculine and feminine design which is effortless to use for both genders. An elongated A-line silhouette for maximum protection featuring an adjustable waistline placed low enough to carry a bag underneath.
Measuring Tip: Cyclist Raincoat will protect you better if you choose the right size. Measure your sleeve length from your neckline down to your knuckles and check that the coat length is below your knees. For maximum comfort we recommend the coat length to be about 15 cm (6”) below your knee. If you have any doubts, I am here to advise you on the sizing - firstname.lastname@example.org

For this campaign senscommon imagined a full set for you to commute safely and in style.
Cyclist Raincoat is designed by a passionate all-year-round cyclist and a detail-obsessed apparel designer, Laura Šilinska. I have been working on the design of Cyclist Raincoat on and off for about 4 years, observing and experimenting. Cyclist Raincoat was shortlisted in the Muji Design Awards in 2014 and was to be stocked in stores by September 2015. Last minute, Muji decided not to cycle in the rain, and so I carried on without them.
Having high-fashion background and Viktor&Rolf as my last employer, I am always striving to push the limits within the clothing industry, whether by creating wearable art at Viktor&Rolf or becoming an independent designer. My knowledge in apparel design and production industry is fundamental for Cyclist Raincoat’s success.
- everyone who commutes by bike
- anyone who is design-sensitive
- those who are just looking for a coat that looks like the rest of their wardrobe but that also happens to be waterproof
- your inner geek, who is into technology and innovation
- those who are not supporting the disposable apparel industry and want to know where and how their clothes are made
- those who appreciate silent branding - apparel with no visible tags, logos or loud details
- everyone who deeply believes that a one-time investment in a well considered product is better than regularly buying poorly made ones
Here is the truth. Despite the growing popularity of urban cycling very few of us are satisfied with currently available cycling rainwear - it’s either low quality and short lived, high-tech sportswear or expensive designer clothing. To design a raincoat that balances casual, fashionable streetwear and techwear, we went beyond traditional production methods and custom trims without compromising on aesthetics. With Cyclist Raincoat we would like to share our passion for safe and environmentally friendly commuting.
Cyclist Raincoat is on Kickstarter in order to produce the first batch of 300 coats involving a minimum order of 1000 meters of our custom fabric. We have covered the design, patterning, fabric development and production sampling.
We have obtained quotes from all the involved parties. All that is missing now is the funding to give the green light to the fabric manufacturer, test one last sample with the final fabric quality, all the trims and production tweaks necessary to ultimately produce the first batch. Here is our plan.
Your contribution in bringing our ideas to reality means the world to us. senscommon is grateful for tokyobike and Bookman already endorsing our products and Sidekick for guiding us through this campaign. Sabrina Bongiovanni, thank you for the wonderful campaign imagery and Onelight for giving senscommon that future sound.
How can you help if you cannot pledge? Forwarding this campaign link to the ones who would relate, is also greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Risks and challenges
We sourced the best suppliers in the field and established a good collaboration with a Swedish company Tekosom, that will carry out our production in its factory in Gdansk, Poland.
They took great care in testing every single detail of Cyclist Raincoat and, like me, can’t wait to push the start button on the production! Our close collaboration guarantees attention to every production detail and respect of schedules.
We would like to think that all the challenges are already behind our backs. However we do know that just like the weather, life can be unpredictable! That being said, we will keep you regularly updated and involved in the process of manufacturing and delivering Cyclist Raincoat to you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
