We at Sekai Project have decided to use Kickstarter because the cost of not only providing a professional, top-quality translation for 50+ hours of gameplay, but also covering licensing royalties, developing costs as well as the voices of many of the industry’s top Japanese voice actresses is quite a monumental task and we need your help! As visual novels still only occupy the hearts of a small group of gamers and anime fans overseas, localizing and translating such an epic comes with many risks, and now is our chance to show Key and other amazing visual novel companies together how much we want to enjoy their games in English!
Will CLANNAD be fully voiced?
Yes! If the project is successfully funded, it will be fully voiced in Japanese. Because we're relicensing the original voices the game will include the wonderful voices of Japanese voice actresses such as Mai Nakahara, Ai Nonaka, Mamiko Noto, Kikuko Inoue, and more! Please note that the protagonist was not voiced and we will not be adding voices for his lines. Additionally, we will not be recording an English dub.
After losing his mother in a car accident and subsequently falling victim to an abusive, alcoholic father, Tomoya Okazaki is an emotionally-distant delinquent student at Hikarizaka Private High School. On his way to school, he meets a strange young girl, Nagisa Furukawa, who is repeating the year due to a severe illness. From their brief encounter, she decides that they are friends and enlists his help in order to revive their school’s drama club. With not much more to do, he cooperates with her, making friends with many of the students and learning about the different problems that they face…
If this project is successfully funded, we plan to release Key’s epic life visual novel in English, fully voiced on Steam for digital download! We also have prepared various Kickstarter exclusive CLANNAD rewards, such as tapestries, T-shirts, and mini-shikishi drawn personally by the artist of CLANNAD, Itaru Hinoue! Depending on the success of our Kickstarter, a physical hard-copy release of CLANNAD is possible as well! We are looking to raise $140,000 which allow us to offer a physical edition of CLANNAD as well as a digital edition.
We also have a message from Baba Takahiro, the president and CEO of VisualArt's!

Who is Sekai Project?
We are a multinational group of fans and creators, working to promote Japanese multimedia and live content overseas. Being fans of visual novels ourselves, it is our dream to see many of the classics released in English.
Risks and challenges
CLANNAD's length is definitely one of it's most challenging aspects. With over 1.35 million Japanese characters in the game, CLANNAD is actually longer than Tolstoy's "War and Peace"! With that hurdle in mind, we'll be working very closely with Visual Art's/Key to ensure everything goes smoothly.
On a similar note, our previous Kickstarter projects are also progressing quite nicely! We've released World End ECONOMiCA episode.01, and episode.02 will be released by the end of the year. fault milestone one chapters 1-4 also have been translated and we will be updating the beta very soon!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
You will need to click the "Manage Your Pledge" button, then add in the amount to your existing pledge. We will be using backerkit to finalize your add ons after the campaign is over.
While CLANNAD's anime has experienced a fair amount of popularity overseas, releasing the game in English had previously been thought of as pretty much impossible. As 2014 marks the 10th year anniversary of CLANNAD's original release in Japan, we thought it would be a great year to try to release the game for the first time to an English-speaking market!
After much debate and consideration, we have decided to re-translate the game in order to provide the best possible translation for CLANNAD! The team of translators we have hired to work on CLANNAD are industry veterans who have worked on many titles such as the hit series Attack on Titan's manga and light novel.
You can add $50 to your pledge to get a physical copy of CLANNAD!
We're still discussing with VisualArt's/Key regarding digital and physical DRM-free versions of CLANNAD. Please stay tuned for updates!
Yes, as CLANNAD has never had an 18+ version, the English release of CLANNAD will also be all-ages just like the Japanese release.
The Mabinogi album is a song arrangement album which came with the limited-first press edition of the game as a bonus when CLANNAD was originally released in 2004. It includes many of the wonderful background songs from the game, as well as the enchanting opening song of CLANNAD, Mag Mell!
The CLANNAD fanbook is 80-pages long and was another bonus item which was included in the original limited-first press release and will be translated in to English!
While we would love to do so, for now we will be focusing our resources on releasing CLANNAD in English on PC alone. However that might change after we have a discussion with VisualArt's and other companies involved in the ports of CLANNAD.
