Message from the Creators
Hi there! I'm Schwarz, the representative of SRL, the team that's bringing you WAS ~ The Hourglass of Lepidoptera~.
SRL is a group of content creators from all over Japan to make this game, found on late 2012 and went on full-scale production since 2014.
Although most of members are freelance creators, some companies are with us in production, so lots of people are involved in this game.
Our goal is to use this game to introduce players to sights and locales within Japan.
It’s our hope that by creating and distributing this game to players all around the world, we can foster interest and deepen people’s understanding of the places represented in the game.
We hope to show the public not only the possibility of our first game, but doujin games in general.
Set in Tottori City, WAS ~The Hourglass of Lepidoptera~ contains colorful depictions of places, sights, and local specialties. This project in content tourism attempts to showcase Japanese beauty and charm to players around the world.
We're receiving positive feedback for WAS, so please support us in its remake and translation for overseas audience. Thank you in advance
What is 'Content Tourism'?
Content Tourism is using media (movies, anime, video games, etc.) to promote local tourism.
About the Setting
The setting for WAS is my hometown, Tottori. Tottori Prefecture is the least populous in Japan, and its population continues to decline. Within Japan, Tottori is best known for its sand dunes, but Tottori isn't just a bunch of villages in the middle of a desert.
Where is Tottori? What’s in Tottori?
Not only does Tottori City engage in cultural exchange with other cities abroad, but since 1950, many Westerners have lived in Tottori and engaged in cross-cultural communication. I can imagine that many of you out there have lots of questions, and it’s my hope that players in both Japan and abroad can learn more about Tottori when playing this game.
I launched this project because I wanted to do something for Tottori, my hometown. It hasn't been easy, but we've been moving this project forwards step by step. We've been getting great feedback and unlocking the potential of content tourism. We would love for our supporters to use this game as a chance to become more interested in Japan and Tottori! SRL is working hard to reach our goals, and we warmly await your thoughts and your support.
About the Project
WAS ~The Hourglass of Lepidoptera~ was first released in Japan in August 2014. Since then, the game’s been making waves throughout Japan. With this project, we want to enhance the game and prepare it for overseas release. We'll be optimizing the game’s systems and promoting the game abroad so players from around the world can learn about it. We'd love to have more people hear about WAS!

Meet the Characters
The keyword for this game is dystopia. The game is set in Post-War Japan, yet this Japan is unfamiliar and strange compared to the one we know from history. Journey with the characters as they meet new people and encounter high drama that will forever change them and uncover the mysteries of the world they inhabit.
In this dystopian world, nothing is what it seems. Though the character seem to be in a land of peace and plenty, we quickly discover that nothing could be further away from the truth. Though WAS might appear to be a bishoujo game, we wish to present a brand-new interpretation of the concept.

How you can help
SRL is currently re-making the game for overseas localization and we’d like your help to make this game the best that it can be. We are currently considering licensing voices for the overseas release, as well as creating goods and merchandise. We’d like to use this game as a springboard to generate interest in Tottori. We want all kinds of people, and not just people who've played the game, to take an interest in Tottori.
If you are unable to contribute financially, we ask that you promote our game and spread the word to your friends. The more, the merrier! Thanks for your support!
For programming and translation we would need $10,000. Even if we don't make the goal of $10,000 translation will be completed but there will be no chance for voices.
Current agreement (and license) with Voice Actors' studio is only valid for Japanese release, so we have to renew the agreement before including voices for oversea release
At $10,500, Specially made postcards will be given to all backers.
At $30,000, voices (event and scene replay only) will be unlocked and Limited quantity of Shikishi (autographs) from Seiyuu will be available.
At $46,000, full voices unlocked, we will be able to do additional recording on character voices (expect for the protagonist) to make the game fully voiced! Shikishi signed by Seiyuu and personalized with backers names will be available.
At $65,000, Kickstarter exclusive goods such as mugs, fans, and dakimakura add ons will be unlocked and we will do an Android port.
$4,000 goes to programming
$5,000 for translations
$1,000 for physical goods and shipping
Sekai Project does not charge a fee or take any money from this campaign for itself, all campaign funds goes directly back to the circle in Japan.
Risks and challenges
Creation of physical goods and shipping them will be the biggest issue, digital rewards are much easier to deal with.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
