In a mysterious school where day and night are two separate worlds, a mismatched trio work to resolve magic-related incidents.
Our protagonist is a newly enrolled first-year student at a boarding school with a notably large clock tower located deep in the mountains. Unfortunately, on his first day of school, he gets caught up in some sudden trouble and accidentally breaks an expensive-looking statue.
In order to compensate for the broken statue, the principal orders him and the boy who caused the incident to work for the school’s “Bureau for the Investigation of Special Affairs.”
When they arrive at the Bureau’s headquarters, a room situated in the school’s enormous underground library, a girl is waiting for them there with an apathetic look on her face.
The girl informs the confused pair of the situation: Magic exists in this school.
When the clock tower chimes, the “Realm of Night” appears, and merges with the school building. The Bureau’s job is to take care of the supernatural problems that arise. And so, our protagonist struggles to protect the school from troublesome magical items known as “Mists”…
The Bureau for the Investigation of Special Affairs
The team that the protagonist is assigned to handles requests and consultations for the principal and other students. All students know of the Bureau’s existence. The school instructs both day and night students to consult with the Bureau if something doesn’t seem right, or is troubling them. The Bureau members are the only students who the Disciplinary Committee will allow to remain on campus after classes are over. All Disciplinary Committee members are instructed to memorize the Bureau members’ names and faces, so that they will not mistakenly send them away. The Bureau has existed since the founding of the school, but was inactive for a very long time; Shishigatani Ushio revived it by herself. Their headquarters are a room located in the large underground library. Even farther underground is the treasury, where Mists are kept sealed.
Most of the characters in the story are normal human beings. All mysterious happenings are caused by magical items called “Mists.” Mists only work if the appropriate conditions are met, which also means that even an ordinary person can use a Mist if they know its characteristics. However, there are a select few humans who possess powerful magical potential. They are referred to as Magie.
Mists (Magical Tools)
The school’s founder, Kral Lazurit, collected various magical items from around the world, which are still kept sealed in the treasury underneath the library. Since they are sealed within the school, they are all stamped with the founder’s seal, and by means of sealing magic, it is impossible to take them outside of the school’s grounds. These magical tools that are kept under the school’s control are called “Mists.” Each Mist has its own abilities and usage requirements. Also, using a Mist expends the user’s latent mana. If the user does not have enough mana, something else will be taken as compensation.
Mists tend to appear in front of those who are in need of their power. They can also draw people towards them. If a person uses a Mist without knowing its costs or characteristics, it can cause serious trouble. When the school was founded, the founder cataloged all of the Mists and the specifics of their abilities. These records are kept in the underground library.
Libra Lapis Lazuli Private Academy is an imposing boarding school with a tall clock tower. It occupies a large amount of land. Many mysterious items were brought there, such as archaeological artifacts, ancient documents, and other antiques. Among these were the magical tools, Mists. Furthermore, the school itself is a giant magical apparatus. When night falls, the school building is linked to an alternate dimension called the “Realm of Night,” where a different set of students attends their classes. The school’s founder, Kral Lazurit, was himself a Magie with special powers, and created this school to bring together other Magie, where they would be protected and their ancient powers sealed. Presently, few people know the school’s true nature, and it operates as a regular academy.
Compared to other schools, class time is shorter and ends earlier. However, the dorm’s curfew is very strict, and measures are taken to ensure that students are back in their rooms by the designated time. Once a student has returned to their dorm, they are not permitted to go out, though they are free to walk around inside. The reason for the strict curfew is for the safety of the students, and to keep the Realm of Night a secret. Since the students cannot leave their dorms, the dorm buildings have various facilities, and club activities also take place there. Students are split between the east and west dorms, but all Bureau members live in the east dorm.
Realm of Night
When the clock tower chimes, another world appears inside the school building. It’s not much different from the real world, but it is only ever nighttime there, and it is impossible to leave the campus during this time. The students of the Realm of Night seem just like regular students, but they only know of nighttime and are unaware of the existence of the daytime world. The regular students are also unaware of the existence of the “Realm of Night”; only a select few people are able to visit both sides.
The Disciplinary Committee
The Disciplinary Committee’s role is to ensure that all students leave the school building and return to their dorms before the clock tower chimes. They are allowed to be a bit rough with the students if it is necessary in order to fulfill their duty. Due to the nature of their role, all members are taught the existence of the Realm of Night and they are aware that their job is special. In order to become a member, you must have the school’s approval and undergo an examination. The school selects those with high latent mana or the potential to gain more mana in the future as Disciplinary Committee members.
The trilogy includes A Clockwork Ley-Line: The Borderline of Dusk, A Clockwork Ley-Line: Daybreak of Remnants Shadow, and A Clockwork Ley-Line: Flowers Falling in the Morning Mist.
A Clockwork Ley-Line: The Borderline of Dusk was originally released in Japan in 2012 to great acclaim, and takes its influences from many modern fantasy adventures, such as Harry Potter. The brilliant mix of magic, mystery and romance made for a truly enchanting story, leading to a continuation of the series in 2013 with Daybreak of Remnants Shadow. The explosive finale finally came in 2015 with Flowers Falling in the Morning Mist.
Like most story-heavy visual novels, A Clockwork Ley-Line makes use of choices to allow the reader a chance to change the outcome and invite them to replay the adventures to seek out different outcomes depending on their decisions. While the protagonist is male, the story makes use of a diverse cast of strong, beautiful girls. It is also a mature title, making use of character development, romance, mature themes and settings to involve the reader into the different personalities that color this world.
For this campaign, we are funding a limited edition physical run for collectors and fans to enjoy. The game itself has been funded and developed internally, but often we get request for physical editions based on collector interest, DRM concerns, etc. However doing physical print in this day and age is surprisingly expensive, especially outside of mainstream retail avenues. Especially when producing a proper slipcase and 4 individual disc packaging.
With a crowdfunding option, fans can get a chance to own the extremely limited version of the trilogy in a slipcase boxset, similar to other games we've released with multiple game entries. Alongside these games, there is also the complete soundtrack on disc as well as other extras like a tapestry.
For those who seek only to own Ley-Line digitally, we also offer an early bird option to help out your collector friends reach their desired goal and enjoy the trio of releases yourself.
The boxset will be the unrated version of the game, DRM Free! For those interested in an all ages version, this will be made available on Steam.

Sekai Project is a start-up group located in Los Angeles, and focuses primarily on localizing Asian visual novels to the English speaking market through platforms such as Steam, PSN and mobile. Their previous works include The Fruit of Grisaia (Frontwing), CLANNAD (VisualArts/Key), and NEKOPARA (NEKOWORKs). They also publish other genres of games, and currently have more than 30 games on Steam, as well as a manga publishing branch.
And with the support of our partnership with Nutaku, the game will of course be available in both All Ages and unrated versions!
We're currently focused on fulfilling our other console commitments on previous Kickstarter campaigns. Until those are fulfilled we feel it is not good practice for us to continue to promise console versions.
