Seepers: A Love Story
A full-length horror feature film with a mean streak of comedy.
We have just over two days of the campaign left, so here's a small but satisfying stretch goal.
If we reach £6,500 we will be able to give one of the most despicable characters a truly horrible death. One they really deserve.
So how about it? We're not going to spoil anything, you'll just have to trust us when we say it's going to make you HEAVE.
Sexy New Poster
We're proud to present our new official poster designed by none other than Graham Humphreys. Known for films such as Evil Dead, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Dusk Till Dawn, I'm sure you'll agree that his latest work fits right along side those classics. Every tier from £75 and above will receive an quality A3 poster. Furthermore, the first ten backers will have their signed by the artist himself.
I know, right?
Here's a little taster of what's to come. We will have a full-length trailer for you (if there is such a thing) as soon as our little asses can manage it.
SEEPERS: A LOVE STORY is a scrappy low budget trash indie horror film.
Ever thought that movies played things a little too safe? We wanted to make something that didn't fit into standard genre boxes and went places other films fear to tread. We love slashers and ghost stories as much as the next horror fan, but for our own movie wanted to go off the rails a little. So we got a little bit of body horror, added a large helping of classic British sit-com and an overzealous sprinkle of trashmeister John Waters and a Cadbury's flake to top it off.
In Seepers we follow the story of two rival methane farms illegally extracting bio-fuel from their hapless kidnap victims. Ruthless corporate espionage turns into an unexpected love story taking detours through gross-out comedy, musical sequences, action, kidnapping, horror, crazed experiments, exercise videos and too many bodily functions to list. This film is going to be a punk rock fuelled slice of gonzo weirdness with a just a little heart running through it.
What you might charitably call our 'hero', Phil, is overwhelmed by his job at the Seeper Farm where he looks after a battery of kidnapped 'Seepers'--unlucky people snatched from the streets of a post-Brexit wasteland. Worked to the bone by his domineering boss Catriona, Phil eventually gets an apprentice. Only the new boy, Bobby, isn't all he appears to be. When none of the characters have the slightest shred of morals there's no way of knowing where the story goes from there...
Taking disparate elements from TV shows like Bottom and Blood Drive as well as films as diverse as Pink Flamingos, Re-Animator and RoboCop, Seepers: A Love Story aims to be a blast of fresh air in the horror genre. We hope to take you all along for the ride and make sure everyone gets wet on the way.
So why do we need £6,000? It's not a lot of money for an entire feature film, but remember we're taking this from a no-budget film to a lo-budget movie. Much of the production is already accounted for, either paid from our own pocket or made with passion by people who have waived their usual fees. The money we get from this campaign will go directly to creating some of the more challenging scenes we have planned. These involve complex practical effects and high quality production design that would not be possible without a little cash behind them. Additionally there's the cost of location rental and the creation of the many weird and wonderful props and sets we have in mind.
The final film would under usual circumstances cost a great deal more than what we're asking for, so any contributor is getting a lot more bang for their buck.
MEET THE CREW
Melanie Gourlay - Director, Producer and Writer
The brains behind the operation. Mel is a passionate filmmaker and the only person who could get such a talented cast and crew behind such an ambitious and wild concept like Seepers. Having written, directed and edited several horror shorts, the only way was to go bigger and better. Seepers will bring together everything she's passionate about in pulp cinema; gross-out humour, gory effects, and an admirable disregard for conventions as well as a healthy feminist streak.
Paul Huxley - Writer
With several features and short films written for a variety of international filmmakers, screenwriter Paul Huxley (Uprise) is now focusing on his own stories including Seepers which he wrote with Melanie Gourlay. He'll also be working as second unit, occasional extra, actor, boom operator and runner. Somehow he'll have the novelisation of Seepers: A Love Story ready in time for all the backers too.
Jayne Hyman - Special Practical Effects
Jayne is a freelance Maker and Special Makeup Effects Artist with a background in Film, Theatre and Live Events dating back to 2004.
Since 2011, she has branched out from makeup into prop-making and art department work. Her film credits include 'Cannibals and Carpetfitters', and 'Madness in the Method' among many others.
We have worked with Jayne heaps in the past, she will be providing some outrageous practical effects for Seepers, thanks to you kind people.
Dan Lord - Cinematographer
'Based on a dream by Dan Lord' is an actual credit on this movie. This should tell you all you need to know about the strange mind of our primary camera guy. As Forecast Designs, Dan shoots stunning promos and outlandish fashion and will use that keen eye to make the world of Seepers really pop.
Craig Newson - Cinematograher
Another stalwart crew family member, Craig has done some cracking videography for us in the past, we are super chuffed to have him on board for the big one.
Steve Askey - Special Video Effects
Have you seen that showreel? I mean, come on. This guy's going to knock it out of the park. Although we love practical effects, we're no snobs when it comes to VFX. Steve will bring his visual skills to work in conjunction Jayne's traditional effects to enhance and elevate all the crazy stuff we're throwing their way.
Having worked on Kickstarter success story Cannibals and Carpet-fitters sexy Steve Askey now lends his talents to Seepers.
MEET THE CAST
Playboy, raconteur, bon-vivant, owner of far too many tie-in movie novelisations. Gav portrays what could charitably called the 'hero' of the film. Fearlessly throwing caution to the wind in the spirit of indie film making, Gavin is really going to give this movie something special. We should have discussed the script with him before casting, but its too late now. He promised he'd be in it.
As an integral part of Mel's short films both behind and in front of the camera, Gav is an essential part of the process.
Our go-to action girl has appeared in several of our short films now, if it wasn't for her persistence in pestering Mel into making a feature we're not sure it would be happening at all. Jimmi is very busy with "proper" acting jobs so we are very lucky indeed to have her.
The very talented Sarah Spencer (Harold's Going Stiff) is perfect as 'Coco' a woman who can't control who she loves despite the dire consequences. The put-upon housewife becomes a force to be reckoned with by the end of her time in Seepers.
This guy's too good. We really should have given him a bigger part. As the short tempered Patrick who runs a rival Seeper operation, Darren's going to give some class to what could be a very problematic role. Let's just say that there's more to his character than meets the eye.
Ivan is an up and coming actor and dancer who will be lending his special talents to bring to life the morally ambiguous character 'Bobby'. The script doesn't call for it but by heck we're going to use his Cossack dancing skills in the movie somehow.
We've arranged one of the very best soundtracks for the film, which will of course be available through our pledge rewards.
Sarah, Chris and Evangeline make wonky synth/guitar noisepop. They've written some fantastic original songs for the movie which will give the whole bloody affair a good kick up the backside.
Blasting out blistering garage punk, this 3-piece band from Sheffield, and are a bit like if The Cramps and The Fall merged with Bikini Kill! The band features Missy Tassles on trash guitar and vocals, Paul Dorrington on hi-tension bass and vocals with Mitch Genner beating primitive rhythms.
The Sleazoids have provided the film with a catchy theme song.
Adam Clarkson is an English pianist, keyboard player, guitarist, vocalist and composer. He was the principle song writer, vocalist and founding member of the UK band Captain Dangerous in 2003 and remained an active member until 2014. Between 2016 – 2017 he worked as the pianist for UK band 'Hollywood'.
Clarkson began playing the piano at the age of 8. Since the mid 2000’s he’s written for film and television, travelled the world performing, and worked as a composer for the Theatre Royal in Nottingham.
Some of his works are featured on Channel 4’s “Fresh Meat", and have been used on television advertising campaigns for ITV’s International football coverage, and Channel 5’s “Grey’s Anatomy”.
We've got some blinders for you including the usual things such as DVDs and downloads. What you don't want to miss though are things like the exclusive soundtrack featuring tracks from Duck, The Sleazoids, The Mighty Sieben and more. Any self respecting movie also has a tie-in book, and so do we. Written by screenwriter Paul Huxley, the novelisation promises to be something a little different from the movie, just as all book adaptations should (like the chapter in the Gremlins book that reveals that Gizmo is from another planet).
For a little preview of the first chapter head on over to Wattpad
You'll also get the chance to snap up some original artwork by Richard Adam Reynolds and a mind-blowing super-secret poster from one of horror's most sought-after artists which we'll add to the rewards soon. So be sure to check back.
Risks and challenges
Guess what guys, film making isn't easy. Not taking in to account random acts of god, societal breakdown and the film makers losing their marbles, there's still a lot that can take a project off the rails. From day one it has been our goal to get this project finished no matter what happens, even if it takes a lot longer than we envisaged. Our primary concern is getting everyone's schedules in sync. Most people are either working pro-bono or being paid in kind, as such we have to take in to account their personal schedules. That said we're a tight knit group of friends who are all eager to see this project through.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
