A new and original 16 bit game heavily inspired by Saturday morning cartoons from the 90s fueled by our deep love for the SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive Console.
A horizontal scrolling action platformer that will take you through six different levels each with it's own monsters and bosses, with tons of items to collect and powerful abilities to acquire.
The lord of the underworld has decided to cast a curse on the town of Illmoore Bay to start bringing his infernal army to rule over the world of the living.
Of course, all magic, even magic from the darkest pits of hell comes with a price... Cole and Scarlett, the protectors of Illmoore Bay welcome each visitor as they enter town. As the curse reigns down, the mysterious statues come to life to hunt down the source of evil, solve a mystery and and save the town.
Our heroes are way more brave and powerful than they look...
The Curse of Illmoore Bay is an action platformer that takes influences from games like Ducktales (NES) and the Megaman series among other retro games.
Just press START and select any of the powerful powers and abilities... You need to collect them all first though and it won't be that easy...
We really wanted to give the player a lot of variety with the graphics and sprites so we made a ton of art for the game.
You, the player can choose one of our two heroes and make your way through a monster infested town visiting different places and buildings and defeating bosses in order to solve the mystery of why is all of this happening and saving the town.
Take a look at the complete map with all the stages that you can visit and play and then come back and replay for more points or items.
Each level has it's own final boss fight on a special Boss stage area.
Creepy isn't it?
We don't want to spoil too much but along the way you'll be able to collect powerful abilities that will make the game more fun and challenging with lots of cartoony sounds and animations.
Is there a demo version?
Of course! You can download a ROM file below and play a whole stage in any SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive emulator or on any real console using a flashcart... Let us know what you think.
Download the demo here.
Thanks for playing!
The game is being made using SecondBASIC so it can be played on any original or compatible SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis consoles using a standard 3 button joysticks or arcade sticks.
So far we have most of the graphic workload done, all the assets for the characters, stages enemies and bosses have been completed, most of the engine is finished too, and so are the rocking music pieces for the different levels and screens. The Curse of Illmoore Bay could technically be finished with the assets already created, but we want to give this game the best possible look and feel possible, that's why we need more time and your help to push the development process a little bit further and make something truly amazing.
Each character has more than 50 hand made animation frames plus several effects and projectiles.
We have plenty of tilesets that allow us to make a great variation when it comes to design stages and challenges for the player.

Risks and challenges
As always, we strive to make each endeavor as risk free as possible. 99.9% of the assets are finished (before any stretch goals), and the programming is about 50% of the way done. There are potential delays that could happen due to materials for manufacturing, additional features (stretch goals), but we're confident with the deadlines we've set.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
