Season Annual, a passion project created by three designers with a love for the beautiful game, is back for its third edition.
The original idea was to recreate the football annuals we all owned as children; combining graphic design, illustration, infographics and sports journalism to document all the highs and lows of an entire Premier League season. After three years of work, we're looking for your support to help us print the third and final (for the time being...) edition of this project.
Another incredible Premier League season has recently come to an end, where we've seen one of the greatest championship winning sides in the Premier League era. Once again we have been documenting every game as well as analysing the best goals, performances and statistics from each weekend from August through to May.
After three years of meticulously following the Premier League, the Season Annual team will be taking a break from the project; in order to focus on some new and exciting projects. We want to make this years book a celebration of the project as a whole, so encourage all contributors past and present to get involved! We would love to have the chance to do justice to the idea by funding this (potentially) final book.
For the previous two editions, the action from each week of the season has been illustrated by a mixture of 39 established and up-and-coming illustrators. This year is no different, we are back with another 39 brilliant illustrators, to cover every aspect of the 2017/18 season.
By asking for contributions from a wide variety of illustrators (football fans and non-football fans), Season Annual provides a alternative view of the weekly Premier League action and acts as a platform for them to display their work, in both the book and a launch exhibition in London.
We have three sports journalists who offer week-by-week coverage of every single game of the Premier League as well as longer articles around key talking points throughout the season.
A 300+ page book is expensive to make and the money raised through Kickstarter will be primarily spent on the print and production of the book. As designers we all love print, and are working had to produce the annual to the highest possible standards. The book will be 238x168mm and printed on 130gsm silk paper with a 350gsm embossed cover and limited edition illustrated dust jacket in the team colour of the champions. This is a working specification, dependant on the amount of backing we receive we’d love to improve on this.
After last years successful Kickstarter campaign, we are back again to crowd-fund for the book in order to keep it completely independent. With your support we are looking to produce and distribute an initial edition of 300 books, and host a launch exhibition in London. All pledges received via Kickstarter will go directly towards producing the book to the highest possible standards.
Season Annual is a passion project, all of the founders and contributors produce their work around full time jobs, freelance work and other commitments. Your support, will also allow us to provide a small thank you to all the contributors to the annual. This means providing them all with a minimum of a copy of the book and prints of their illustrations.
The target amount is lower than last years requested amount, purely because we as the producers of the annual are in a position to fund more of the print run internally.
Season Annual would not be possible without our fantastic contributors, collaborators and sponsors, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for allowing this project to exist.
Risks and challenges
We are in our third year of the production of Season Annual, and have learnt a lot from the previous editions. We have allowed ourselves more time this year from the end of the season to getting the artwork to the printers; in order to ensure the quality of the content is of the highest quality.
We have been working hard on the third edition of the book since August 2017. The content is on track to be completed in time, but we do rely on sponsorship and financial contributions in order to bring the project to life.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
