On Tuesday, August 26th, 2014, the world was shocked to learn that Hello Kitty is not a cat.
While we were as stunned as the next person, it also seemed strangely familiar to both myself and an artist friend of mine, Katie Hunerdosse, as we're both fans of Rene Magritte's famous painting "The Treachery of Images."
We thought it only appropriate to partner up and create a parody mash-up of the two, and in telling people about the finished product, we realized that we weren't the only ones who might enjoy it. This Kickstarter project is to help make it possible to create prints and shirts of "The Treachery of Kitties," so they can be available to anyone who wants one.
What's in it for me?
We DO has buttons!!!

MASSIVE UPDATE #4!!!
We're offering Buttons, Radio Plays, Pendants, and Add-Ons now! Click on through to check it all out, or check it out below!
THE FREE STUFF:
All physical rewards will now come with a high-resolution digital copy of "The Treachery of Kitties" for all your background and wallpaper needs! Additionally, all T-Shirt Rewards now come with a free button of "The Treachery of Kitties"!
We're making 5x7 and 8x10 prints of "The Treachery of Kitties," which will be printed on 100 lbs. stock.
In addition to the prints, we're also making t-shirts of "The Treachery of Kitties"!
These will be silk-screened on Gildan SoftStyle shirts (White is 100% cotton; Red, Pink, and Blue are a 90/10 cotton/polyester blend; the rest are a 35/65 cotton/polyester blend), using the same vendor we used when we created our shirts for Artful Daggers. Both uni-sex and ladies varieties are offered, in a variety of sizes and colors. We'll ask for which style, size, and color you want in a survey after the project has been successfully funded. Additionally, all shirts now come with a free button of "The Treachery of Kitties"!!!
Katie is making a handful of original watercolor reproductions of "The Treachery of Kitties." These will be made out of the same watercolors and watercolor paper as the original. Get them while they last!
We're offering 2-packs (one for you and one for a friend) of these 1.5" buttons for $5, and 5-packs for $10. Additionally, every Shirt reward will now come with a free button as well!
At the $35 Reward tier, Sean is offering five hand-lettered, six-panel radio play comics based on whatever elements you want! You can see an example above, or see it in action starting in Issue #10 of ARTFUL DAGGERS! The radio art is by Andrew Losq.
Katie is offering five polymer clay pendants of "The Treachery of Kitties" (or a custom commission) at the $50 Reward tier. Click on through to see more examples of pendants she's made in the past in her store.
THE ORIGINAL "THE TREACHERY OF KITTIES"
As a special halfway-to-our-goal/one-week-to-go offering, Katie's putting up the original watercolor painting of "The Treachery of Kitties" as a reward! Don't miss out on this piece of history!!!
With so many rewards offered, we're making it easy for Add-Ons, since not every tier comes with everything you might want.
How do you add an Add-On? Simply click the "Manage Your Pledge" button, then add in the amount of the Reward Tier you want to add. For example, say you backed a Cloned Kitty, but want a shirt as well. Simply add $25 to your Pledge, and once we're funded, we'll ask you for the details of the Add-On in a Survey. It's that easy! Here's a list of possible Add-Ons, for easy reference:
Button 2-pack: $5
5x7 Print: $10
8x10 Print: $15
Radio Play: $35
Watercolor Reproduction: $150
And as always, thank you for your help, and thanks for sharing!!!

Risks and challenges
There are always risks associated with projects where goods are being manufactured. Fortunately, we have the original finished artwork in-hand, and are working with local vendors we've used successfully in the past for other, non-Kickstarter projects (such as ARTFUL DAGGERS (see above)). The biggest risk is delays based on the size of our final orders, once the project is successfully funded.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
