"Sean Aaberg follows in the lowbrow tradition of the late great Ed Roth with his own brand of uncanny psyched-out caricatures. Aaberg's cast of characters are equal parts grotesque and goofy, which he renders with meticulous detail -- warts, ooze, rotten teeth and all." - Juxtapoz Magazine
"I love the Underground Comix meets Day-Glo posters vibe." - Tony DiTerlizzi
"Sean Aaberg the great Punk Artist Freak is killing it with his game! Sean’s work ethic, developed aesthetic, and obvious love for fantasy illustration is further developed by his DIY roots and disciplined power! Power that is only derived from years of being in the punk community, where your credibility is gained from direct action and a committed love to what you are doing! Especially when no one cares. Sean is an inspiration of persistence to me!" - Skinner
"Sean 'Goblin' Aaberg is an uppity punk whose illustrations of mythological cider-swilling crusty trolls have graced the pages of zines since the early 90’s. Sean is a smart & versatile artist who gracefully handles multiple styles & projects, with an emphasis on subversive design and bold color." - Dennis Dread
“The first time I saw Sean Aaberg's artwork was for my friend's band Personal and the Pizzas. Soon after I got a copy of his magazine PORK. It's that edgy style and color that just kinda pops out at you. Sean has a great vision as an artist not only in his graphic style but his finger is constantly on the pulse of the pop culture trash we all love and hold so dearly to our hearts. I personally can't wait to see all his art under one roof in the book that in my opinion is way over due.” - Dirty Donny Gillies
Sean and Katie Aaberg from Goblinko here. You may know us by our previous projects, Dungeon Degenerates: Hand of Doom, PORK Magazine, and the Goblinko line of fashion and lifestyle accessories. You may also have heard that Sean suffered a severe cerebellar stroke last fall.
For the last 9 months our whole lives have been dominated by the stroke and Sean’s recovery efforts. The good news is, Sean is making excellent progress, and is on track to make a 100% recovery, but it takes a lot of time. We’re told it could be another year before he is fully ready to return to work and begin creating new artwork. Meanwhile, Sean has a large fan base asking for a collected volume of his old artwork. And that brings us to this Kickstarter campaign!
We want to publish a large, full color, hardbound, coffee-table book of Sean’s artwork. The book will be 200 pages long, featuring his original artwork from the last twenty plus years, in a range of styles, from initial concept sketches to completed artwork, showcasing drawings from many different published projects, and some never before seen work as well!
We’re keeping this campaign simple, the focus is on the book, so we’re not doing stretch goals or add-ons. Backers do have the option to pledge at a slightly higher level to get a signed copy of the book, and we do have a bookstore pledge level as well.
For everyone who has been asking, yes we will eventually be publishing a book about our voyage through the Stroke Dimension - including Sean’s stroke recovery artwork - but we need to finish this journey before we write the book about it. For now, we are pleased to present Acid Vomit! The Art of Sean Aaberg, and we hope you will join us and back the project so we can bring this thing to life!
Here are some examples of artwork that will be featured in the book:
These are our shipping estimates based on the proposed size/weight of the book. Final shipping charges will be handled through Backerkit after the conclusion of the Kickstarter campaign. We will be working with European fulfillment agents for our international deliveries, so....
Risks and challenges
Our last three Kickstarter campaigns got majorly interrupted by Sean's stroke and some international shipping issues. The good news is, we have fulfilled on 2/3rds of those Kickstarters despite these challenges, and the third one (the Tarot Goblinko) is on track to be completed next year when Sean fully recovers.
This project is a collection of previously completed artwork, and therefore needs no new work to be completed by Sean. The graphic design and layout will be done by Sean's assistant under his direction, and we have budgeted extra time to get this work done.
We have built on the lessons learned in our international shipping fiasco late last year, and are taking extra steps to ensure nothing like that happens this time. Of course, there are always unforseen challenges that can arise (like a stroke!), but our policy is full transparency and communication with our backers about any delays or issues that may arise.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
