Seamripper is a project designed by two seamstresses to celebrate the cacophony of the sewing studio. We've spent enough time in the studio to be considered masters of our skill, but just how much control do we have over the aural experience?
We will use unconventional instruments generally used for sewing to create experimental music. We've been calling our sound "industrial" or "stitchcore", but we're just as concerned with the process as the resulting music. Many of the individual sounds are percussive, like the click of pins on a magnet want or the swish of a pair of shears. We'll fill in the melody with our voices, and with tongue-in-cheek lyrics of the trade. Our vision is to create a roughly polished album- made with great skill, and with stitches showing.
The Summer of Seamripper
We're handcrafting the album ourselves from the ground up, and the quality of our sound capture is key. We need to be able to pick up the sweet "tink" of a pin-drop in all its splendor! As a studio band, much of the magic that is Seamripper will be due in part to the quality of our recording. Though the performance end will be decidedly low-tech, we think our project will be best served by a crisp, clean recording.
While Rose edits sound, Jade will be putting together videos documenting our process, DIY projects for our blog, and hand-crafted music videos.
With your support, we will get:
- audio editing software
- handheld video camera
- video editing software
- equipment & supplies
- huge external hard drive
If we surpass our funding goal, we'd love to put together a sewing-themed art show to complement a record release party! It'd give us a great venue for thanking our supporters and celebrating our sweet victory. (We're both avid bakers, so it will certainly be sweet!)
