Duke of Defense is a tower defense game where you play as a knight directly on the battlefield. You must use cunning strategies and clever resource management skills to construct towers that fend off hordes of enemy goblins, ogres, and golems. The safety of the kingdom is at stake, so you must do everything you can to protect it!
The game is slated to be released October of this year on PC and Nintendo Switch, and is slowly nearing completion. So why have a Kickstarter? As the game was being developed, we realized there was so much more we could add. We want this game to reach its maximum potential, and so we're turning to Kickstarter for extra funding to make that possible, in the form of free post-launch content updates.
So far, most the core gameplay has already been implemented. This includes:
- Tower building/selling/upgrading
- Movement, rolling, combat
- Player upgrades
- Enemy waves and all enemy types
- Menus and hub world
- 2 player shared screen multiplayer co-op
At the moment, we are still finishing up some remaining art, polish, and music before we continue on to design the levels. Around 35 levels are planned for the October release.
We have prepared a demo just for the Kickstarter that features 4 levels including a tutorial and local co-op multiplayer! Download it for free here: https://seabass.itch.io/duke-of-defense
Note for Mac users: Your security settings may cause the app to be marked as "Damaged" or "Unsafe". To fix this issue, please follow these instructions: https://gist.github.com/christopherwk210/0e66044cf589b9923d76b6bd47e08c6b
With extra funding, there's so much more that we would love to add to the game. Here's what we have in mind:
- More levels
- More towers
- More enemies
- Endless mode
- New custom split screen levels for 2 person competitive play mode
- Level editor and Steam workshop support - make your own levels!
Note: If we reach this goal, we will make sure that the exclusive Steam version golden armor will appear for others when playing online!
Risks and challenges
Games that feature on Kickstarter always have a risk of not being able to deliver a complete product even after funding. Because our game is already slated to release in October, we know that the game will be available no matter what.
This isn't the first commercial game we've released, so we're familiar with the launch process, and also how post-launch content updates work. Our experience makes us confident that we can successfully push out a potentially huge post-launch content update with the funding we would receive through Kickstarter.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
