About
My photographic work as it stands now is an initial investigation into understanding the fantasy that the early days of flight brought to the world. With my images I want to, even if its a moment, suspend reality and enjoy the nostalgia of looking at airplanes take off and landing. Standing in locations that are so close to the runways that it seems if you reached just high enough, maybe on your tip toes you could just maybe brush your fingers against the bottom of these metallic monstrosities, and when that moment is finished be rushed back into the reality that I just witnessed a miracle of science of a 10,000 pound metal tube lifting off the ground.
With the suspension of reality comes of course a academic theory, one that harkens to my days in film school. The theory of suspension of disbelief seems to fit very nicely into the idea’s I previously spoke of, even though I recognize there is no magic or mystery to the fact that an airplane can fly due to various physical principals, because of the location where the images are taken it lends the ability for me to be taken away from the reality that we all live within, and much like when watching a movie, being transported into a third reality, where there is still mystery and magic and stories become visible imagery.
