In the fun and compelling context of a Special Forces boot camp, Scouts will learn and practice all the requirements to fulfill the Wilderness Survival merit badge.
Wilderness Survival should be fun, but it's not a game.
You probably don't care if your Boy Scout really masters the skills of basket weaving, and you're not going to revoke his Space Exploration merit badge if he can't remember the order of the planets. But some skills should last a lifetime, and might even be used to save a life.
Introducing the Wilderness Survival merit badge Special Forces Edition! The Special Forces Edition adds an exciting dimension to the Wilderness Survival merit badge, making the important life skills fun to learn and highly memorable, without changing the requirements in any way.
The core of the package is a detailed lesson plan written by a professional instructional designer. The instruction takes place over one Troop meeting, and an overnight camp which uses the engaging theme of a military boot camp.
Focus on Skill Mastery
Scouts will benefit from effective instruction and practice new skills in a patrol vs. patrol environment. This sort of 'real-use' of skills causes learning to become long-term, not forgotten after a day or so. Earning this badge will be more than just checking the boxes, it will be the beginning of a lifetime of safe outdoor adventures.
Strengthening Patrol Unity
Scouts will work in patrols, building stronger ties and coming to rely on each other's strengths as they work together to survive and compete against other patrols! Patrol leadership and teamwork will be essential as Scouts work to prepare a shelter, purify water, start fires, and accomplish the other requirements for the badge.
What Will Your Pledge Pay For?
No Kickstarter funds will be used to pay for the development of the lesson plan. Volunteer time only. Backer funds will be used for:
- Design and printing of a pocket book for Scouts
- Printing of a Special Ops poster to promote your event.
- Manufacturing of Special Forces themed patrol patches
No, this isn't a new merit badge. It is a themed lesson plan to teach the requirements for the Boy Scouts of America's official Wilderness Survival merit badge. No requirements have been changed, so it's fully BSA approved. It's just an engaging and memorable way to teach the official content!
