The World's First Plant-Based Footwear Brand
Hey there! We're Scoots, the world's first plant-based footwear brand. We wanted to be better consumers, but we didn't want to give up style and comfort. We definitely didn't want to be on some high horse to "save the planet”. Being a superhero sounds exhausting, so we save that for Halloween.
For the past 18 months, we scoured the world for the best plant-based materials and created a shoe from scratch. A shoe that looks good, feels good, and does good for the environment. Let us tell you about the shoes, the innovative materials we used, and how they're made.
Introducing our product, the PA1 (Pine-apple 1).
We've spent the past 18 months crafting the perfect shoe that is comfortable, versatile, and environmentally impactful. Our shoes will keep you comfy from your morning commute to happy hour drinks, look as good with your date-night outfit as they do with your comfy sweats, and will last longer than Nicolas Cage's acting career. And dammit, they look cool.
We love the PA1 because they are...
We keep telling you that we made a plant shoe, but what does that mean, exactly?
If you're nerdy like us and want to know more, here are all the details on each material.
Our latex and cotton insole provides all day support and comfort! See for yourself:
Take a look at how our shoes are made. Spoiler alert: it's not a bunch of magic elves, and it doesn't happen at the North Pole.
We have an amazing team of craftsmen and -women working with us in Portugal.
- Cork is a key ingredient in our shoe and over 45% of the world's cork is grown in Southern Portugal. The best know-how on working with cork is also there.
- There is a long heritage of making high-quality footwear in and around Porto, where there are over 300 shoe factories.
- We can be certain that everyone who works on a pair of Scoots is treated fairly and is paid a living wage. Dave spent a whole month in our factories to make sure.
- Portugal is strategically located right on the water, which allows us to easily ship our shoes to just about anywhere in the world. We also wouldn't mind some beach vacations.
It's important to us to leave as small of an environmental footprint as possible. We accomplish this not only by responsibly sourcing our materials, but also by properly disposing of our shoes once you are done wearing them.
We believe that we need to both minimize our negative effects and maximize our positive contributions to the environment. So in addition to our shoe disposal program, we also plant a tree for every email sign-up on our website and for every pair of Scoots purchased.
With your help, we can make a difference: our goal is to plant 20,000 trees. Thanks to our email subscribers, we are more than half way there. Your support for Scoots can take us over the finish line!
We partnered with Forest Nation to make this program possible and they have chosen Tanzania as a place where these trees can have the greatest impact. Check out one of their past projects, the transformation of the Kwembago Forest, below.
We will collect your size information via a survey after the Kickstarter campaign concludes. Our sizing is very similar to a VANS slip on.

You'll be receiving your Scoots in early October. Here's what will happen from now to then:
Our team is a diverse crew that brings a wealth of experience from a variety of industries to bring this company to life. These are just a few of the places where we have worked, and we are all incredibly proud to be part of the Scoots team now.
Risks and challenges
Our partners bring over three decades of experience in the footwear business and we have spent time building a strong enduring relationship with them. To date we have spent over a month at their facility and will be spending the entire month of July there as well to ensure the project stays on track.
We are very confident that we can deliver your Scoots on time and have worked closely with our partners to lay out the timeline. Of course, unforeseen circumstances can cause delays, but we will always strive to be as transparent as possible by updating you every two weeks on our progress!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
