Introducing the Scootahoop.

A completely new and innovative security device that is poised to revolutionize the motor scooter world.

The Scootahoop is an internationally patented security device specifically designed to provide the highest degree of security for motor scooters.

There is simply nothing else like it on the market.

Early in 2013, local media broadcast a story relating to the dramatic increase in the number of motor scooters being stolen and the frustration the local policing authorities have in, not only solving but preventing these crimes.

Two hours later, the Scootahoop seed was planted. 

Thus began a three year long journey of design, development, prototypes, trial and error and finally, a marketable product.

The Scootahoop has been designed to be mass produced. We minimized costs through suitable material use, simplified manufacturing processes, assembly and shipping options. This will enables us to wholesale/retail the device at a very competitive price. 

This competitive price, reflects the affordability of this security product in relation to the cost of the average motor scooter.

It was always our intention to produce the Scootahoop for the mass scooter market rather than a selected niche market.

The Scootahoop is amazingly versatile. It can be installed and utilized almost anywhere a rider can take a motor scooter.

The Scootahoop is a very strong, rugged and aesthetically pleasing security device.    

It has been designed to make securing a motor scooter effortless.

Apart from it's distinctive shape, the other main characteristic of the Scootahoop is it's locking action.

Once the rider has dismounted from their scooter, it takes a few short seconds to secure the bike within the Scootahoop.

The Scootahoop brings with it a new standard of security for motor scooter owners and riders.

It affords them the confidence to park their scooters, lock them up and leave them knowing that the scooter will be there when they return.  

No other scooter security device can offer this degree of satisfaction. 

Motor scooter theft has become a global problem. 

Policing authorities worldwide have no 'real' answer to this problem.  

Characteristics such as size and weight make the scooter an easy target. The majority of motor scooter theft is either for short term 'illegal' use, 're-birthing' or tear down for parts.

As the scooter is a small, common and affordable bike, good second hand parts are always in demand.

Global statistics suggest that security measures currently available for motor scooters are insufficient to curb the growing problem of scooter theft. 

Scooter mounted security devices such as ignition/steering lock, wheel clamp, disc brake clamp, throttle clamp or electronic alarm do not prevent a motor scooter from being lifted onto a vehicle, carried away or in some cases, simply driven off. 

Chains and cables can easily be cut by bolt cutters.

The Scootahoop is the only security device that totally restrains the motor scooter, thus preventing the bike from being moved once locked in place.

Once installed, the Scootahoop is permanently affixed to the ground and cannot be removed.

Installation is simple and only requires a hammer, basic rotary hammer drill and 10mm bit.

The Scootahoop has 'protected' hinges that are tamper proof

Hinge pins are special 'press fit' and cannot be removed.

The padlock shield at the top of the hoop affords the ultimate protection from bolt cutters. The padlock fitting has been designed to accept almost all padlock sizes, shapes and configurations.

Bolt cutters cannot access base plate studs, hinges or padlock.

Made of heavy gauge galvanized steel or stainless steel pipe, the hoop arms are very strong due to their wall thickness and circular shape.

Base plate is produced from either heavy galvanized mild steel or stainless steel plate.

The Scootahoop will be available in a range of standard colors and finishes.   

It is expected that the Scootahoop will be utilized in a number of different urban environments. We therefore have decided to produce three standard finishes.

  • Galvanized - outdoor use where practicality rather than aesthetic appearance is of importance. High weather and corrosion resistance.
  • Powder Coated - for use within environments where aesthetic appearance is of importance such as residential and commercial developments, shopping malls and public facilities. Powder coat over galvanize hoop arms for high corrosion resistance. Stainless steel base plate.
  • Stainless Steel - satin and hi-polished for that upmarket look. High weather and corrosion resistance.

"The worldwide market for motorcycles, including electrically-powered two wheelers, is forecast to grow 7.2 percent annually to 134.5 million units in 2016, and industry revenues are expected to rise 8.7 percent per year to $90.1 billion.     
The Asia/Pacific region will continue to dominate worldwide demand, representing 84 percent of all units sold in 2016. The region, which is home to the six largest national motorcycle markets, will account for more than four-fifths of all new unit sales between 2011 and 2016.
However, it will only be the fourth fastest growing region in percentage terms behind North America, the Africa/Mideast region, and Eastern Europe, much smaller markets that together account for less than one tenth of global demand. China will remain by far the largest national market."

Our international Design Patents cover a number of features exclusive to the Scootahoop.  

This give us the advantage of making slight changes to these features to reconfigure the hoop to accommodate other vehicles.  

Design work has commenced on re-configuring the original Scootahoop to accommodate the bicycle, motorcycle and mobility scooter.
Both require unique hoop shapes to work effectively. We do not see this posing any significant problems. 

We are working to have both bicycle and motorcycle prototypes constructed in the near future

Future Parking Strategy.

  • Creating  a network of ScootaStations will be part of our future. 
  • By building dedicated parking stations specifically for motor scooters, riders will have their own sheltered and secure parking for their bikes.
  • The plan is to have parking stations strategically placed in locations to meet motor scooter parking demand.
  • Transportation hubs, inner suburb, business and shopping districts.
  • Long term and short term parking. 
  • Development of mobile App to compliment ScootaStations.
  • Mobile App will provide riders with parking station locations and directions.
  • App will specify the number and size of Scootahoops available and whether parking station is sheltered or not.
To protect the innovative shape and operation of the Scootahoop, a number of design patents have been applied for and granted globally. This protection allows us to continue to work on the device without fear of infringement.

The following timeline briefly outlines the steps we will take to get the Scootahoop into the global marketplace.   

As well as primary, there are numerous secondary tasks to be acknowledged, attended to and completed.

During the months of July and August, the Scootahoop team will concentrate on finalizing design details ready for production.

Project management plan to be implemented. Production drawings, prototype manufacture/testing and engineer certification. Production estimates, packaging and supply chain will be attended to.

September and October will see the Scootahoop subjected to a pilot production run followed by product review, inspection and testing in order to establish quality satisfaction.

Full production, communication/marketing and distributor options formalized and implemented.

Risks and challenges

When one looks at motor scooter security devices on the market today, it quickly becomes obvious why a 'rethink' is needed to curb the global scooter theft problem.

That rethink is the Scootahoop.

We, here at Team Scootahoop, embarked on a journey to design a security device that would provide the best possible security at an affordable price.

The Scootahoop is a uncomplicated security device. The device has been designed for ease of manufacture and operation. Keep it simple we say.

Prototype Scootahoops have been constructed using mass production processes as a guide. Various materials have been tested for durability and corrosion protection. Strength properties of the device are extremely good as is robustness. A range of ground fixings have been tested and selected for inclusion with each Scootahoop sale.

All expectations have either been achieved or exceeded. We have not encountered any deficiencies with the design, materials used or construction process of the Scootahoop.

We are very happy with the outcomes of these manufacturing trials.

After all this work, we are nearly there.

With the support of Kickstarter backers, Team Scootahoop has the experience, skills and motivation to take this security device to the global market.

This fund raising campaign will take us to production and retail sales.

Together we can defeat the motor scooter theft scourge once and for all.
