SCIBase is a collaborative project between BasementArtsProjects, Leeds and SCI, a geographically diverse collective based in Liverpool.
COLONIZE is the next stage of the project and has been proposed by SCIBase member Debra Eck of Jamestown, New York. We are seeking the funding, through various means including here on Kickstarter, to send several members of the group over to Jamestown NY to take part in an exhibition programme and residencies in the City. 3rd on 3rd Gallery and Dykeman Young Galleries have given us the exhibition spaces and residency opportunities free of charge and we have free accommodation for a number of artists courtesy of Debra Eck. In order to apply for full funding from other arts organisations SCIBase need to raise an initial £2000. We have several incentives on offer for those of you who have read this and / or watched the video and think our project is of interest and would like to donate.
In return BasementArtsProject and SCI are offering two artists of Jamestown, USA residencies and exhibitions in Leeds and Merseyside UK later in 2014
Risks and challenges
At a time of stiff competition when it comes to funding of the arts we have established the amount and criteria for this funding source based on the basic minimum needed to achieve the project. This would allow for a minimum of two people to accompany the exhibition, acting as technicians, curators and resident artists for the exhibitions duration. It would also include an amount dedicated to the transportation of artworks
As independent artists we are also resourceful though and are continually looking at ways to match fund any amount raised here in in order to include other SCIBase members in the residency opportunities.
In order to ensure the project is able to go ahead we have set the funding level at the basic minimum needed to ensure a that a project with a professional and high quality finish can be achieved
We have already begun the process of sourcing as much of our needs as possible in conjunction with the gallerists and artists of Jamestown to avoid any large and complicated shipping costs. In the process we hope to draw into the project new artists interested in collaborative exhibition programming and networking with other artists in other parts of the world.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
