In 2010 I constructed the first Human Light Suit as a means to photograph the citizens of Burning Man's Black Rock City in a way that -- as a professional photographer -- seemed most appropriate to me.
In 2011, I refined the suit with a more streamlined lighting concept.
In 2012, I'm going back with the knowledge and experience of the past two years, and updating the Light Suit once again, but I will also be building a non-mobile photography studio that will be open most evenings on the ground level of "Baal-Mart" (on Esplenade, for those who are attending and looking for me).
The project is also moving beyond Burning Man. In the past, I've used kickstarter as a means to supplement the equipment I own with rented gear for the week at Burning Man. This year, in addition to going to the event for 2 weeks instead of 1 (I'll be arriving early), I'm asking for your help to start investing in some of the electrical components needed to make these lights portable, so that this project can sustainably move beyond one (or two) week(s) in the desert.
Baal-mart will be graciously supplementing me with electricity at night, while last year's solar setup will recharge the light suit batteries during the day!
The majority of expenses with this project are in the rental or purchase of equipment. The $5,500 goal we are asking for, after kickstarter and reward fulfillment, will cover about half of the cost of producing this project this year - so as with a lot of these Burning Man projects, the more we can raise, the bigger and better we can make this project!

This year, we have a beautiful logo, created by Tri Vo Studio of Brooklyn, NY!
Backer rewards include stickers, buttons, t-shirts, postcards, photographs (anything from my archives is fair game), books, portfolios, you can even set up a photo shoot with me at my studio in Venice Beach, CA (at a very reduced rate!). Anyone donating $100 or more will be invited to a special backers-only party at my studio in Venice and receive a Human Light Suit swag bag!
