Hey there! I'm Andrew, but you can call me "Schmandrew" because, let's face it, there are a lot of Andrews out there who also make art. I'm an Illustrator, Designer, and Professor who smiles a lot. Over the last three years, I've slowly transitioned from the world of pop art style alternate movie posters to the world of freelance and original art.
Before we get too deep and become besties, let me explain exactly what this Kickstarter is and why it’s important. First and foremost, this is a campaign to create enamel pins alongside my good friend, and fellow artist, Allen Panakal. Allen and I have overlapping audiences and we’ve both been toying around with the idea of doing pin Kickstarters for awhile now. The thing that makes this truly unique though is that we are running separate campaigns, BUT we are going to reward anyone who supports us both with a very limited edition metal card with both of our art on it! On top of that, we have a stretch goal planned where we’ll each do an interpretation of the other person’s illustration! Pretty rad, right?!
So now that I’ve hyped you up, it’s time to get real. In order to understand where these designs came from I need to explain just what the “Banishment” Collection is and what it means.
Everything changed when the fire nation attacked…
Sorry, I couldn’t resist! It’s hard not to jump to Avatar when you start a sentence with “Everything changed.” In all seriousness though, I went through a really difficult experience at the end of 2017 and into the early parts of 2018. Without going too in depth, a few very important cornerstones in my life either left or passed away. It was hard. I’m usually a pretty happy, optimistic person, but during all of that, I was not myself.
Finally in May of 2018, I remember thinking things were starting to return to normal, but I still felt like I had some pent up energy that needed a release. That’s when I started on “Banishment” and everything actually changed.
“Banishment” is about that turning point in any struggle where things start to improve. It’s that moment of victory where the tides turn and good overcomes evil. It’s the first of many steps out of any struggle we may have gone through or are currently in. It wasn't the whole story which eventually led to two more pieces, “The Banisher” and “The Banished”.
While “The Banisher” represents the mix of exhaustion and relief as we let go and move on, “The Banished” symbolizes the beauty we can find wherever we end up. We are all stronger than we think and whatever happens, we will get through it. That is what the “Banishment” Collection represents.
Having no prior experience doing personal work, I had no idea how it would be received. Thankfully, I was blown away by the reactions I got! So many people shared their own stories with me and how they related to "Banishment". Someone even got one of my pin designs tattooed!
It’s because of that strong reaction that I decided to create these soft enamel pins designs. I think we could all use a physical reminder on our person to remind ourselves just how strong we really are.

And if you only want to snag the pins, there's no need to jump between campaigns to get the metal cards. Just pick Tier 2.5 and you'll get our pins and all the crossover benefits!
Assuming we can exceed our funding goal, I've prepared some stretch goals to unlock.
Last but least, all shipping costs will be added on at checkout. All shipping amounts are priced at cost via the weight of each item.
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk and challenge of this kickstarter will be producing and shipping the pins. Once the campaign closes, it takes about a month to receive funds and at that point we'll place orders. Generally, the supplier takes 3-4 weeks to make and ship the pins. Depending on how many color combinations and goals we unlock, it might add some time to that schedule.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
