Explore the broken world of Akara and the weird world of Torn with this book of gripping stories, daring characters, breathtaking art, and new rules for the 5th Edition of the world’s most popular roleplaying game.
Scavenger is an artbook, fantasy anthology, and campaign setting guide that will allow you to forge adventures set in Akara--a world dying and desperate to survive. In this roughly 175+ page tome you will learn about Akara's doomed cultures, the uncharted and strange world of Torn, and of the shard-powered scavengers that humanity prays will save it.
Explorers, wanderers, treasure hunters or marauders - all of them are scavengers drawn to this old and alien world. Some seek knowledge, and others salvation. The spiritual search for enlightenment and the greedy for riches. What is it that you're hoping to find?
Scavenger is set in the ravaged world of Akara where the only hope is an ancient gateway called the Monolith. It leads to the mysterious World Torn Apart - or Torn - none know from whence it came or how it works. From Torn came sanguine shardstones. These gems allow those who study them to warp reality in strange ways, and were it not for the Great Dying, the face of Akara would have been revolutionized. Nonetheless, the Great Dying is here; a set of natural disasters on a scale unimaginable, a veritable extinction event with seemingly no cause and no end.
Humanity’s hope lies in the hands of the scavengers. Scavengers are the desperate, the damned, and the daring refugees of fallen city-states and destroyed tribes. As Akara is struck with one cataclysm after another, these untethered individuals throw themselves through the Monolith, praying that they'll find something that'll save their loved ones, their homes, their legacies, and their very futures. As they endure the astonishing bizarreness of Torn they themselves are warped into something beyond human. More than a few scavengers wonder if what they must endure is worth whatever hope they'll find.
Akara is a world utterly unlike Earth's own. The cultures are just as diverse, and each has a role to play in humanity's salvation. Alongside the native akarans are the four-armed morg and the estranged and eerie kith. This book will not only go into detail about these two species but also explore the last standing city-states: the assassin-haunted Bataar, the rich and xenophobic Mur, the blood-raiding Kanuma, and the cosmopolitan last home of the refugees - Tarnak.
Akara is well-mapped but there are still gaps left for scavengers to explore. Seemingly every other day a tribe is displaced by some disaster, or an entire city swallowed whole by a horrific earthquake. As scavengers explore their savaged home, they'll gain access to Torn--an uncharted place that promises endless secrets and strange adventures.
This 175+ page book will be an inspirational well filled with art, prose, and new rules for 5E. Expect the following:
- The Scavenger Suite - a set of rules for playing scavenger with 5E, including a bestiary, alternative-class features, and new magical items.
- An in-depth look at the grand city-state of Tarnak, home of the Monolith.
- Seven astonishing and weird locations in Torn for scavengers to explore.
- Information on the city-states of Bataar, Mur, and Kanuma, as well as Akara's many tribes.
- The mystic religion-philosophies that akarans believe in.
- Information on the world-warping shardstones, and the bronze age sciences that have sprouted from them.

Scavenger is fully compatible with the 5th Edition of the world’s most popular roleplaying game. To evoke the esoteric feel of the worlds of Akara and Torn, a number of custom mechanics were specially designed for Scavenger. These rules changes have been playtested for over a year, and have gone over several different iterations. They will continue to be playtested and improved as we prepare the book for fulfillment.
To see a preview of these rules, click the image below and download the sample document. Note that this is a stripped-down, minimalist document, not reflecting on this book's layout and art.
Here is what you can find inside our Playtest package:

Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstarter project, but both Tim and James have worked on great projects such as Oath of the Frozen King and a Deadman’s Guide to Dragongrin.
The book is nearly finished, as is the art. A reliable printer and distributor has been worked out. Files are backed up religiously, the I’s have been dotted and T’s crossed, and unless a Great Dying hits Earth - in which case this project being late would be the least of your worries - we have taken every possible precaution to make sure this book reaches your table.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
