What are octopals?
Super cuddly friends who are always there to make you smile! These little guys are a perfect plush toy for kids of any age!
What is Scatterbrain Handmade?
In 2011 I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I started sewing as a creative outlet to pass the time while going through treatment. I fell in love with the craft quickly, and created so many octopals while I was healing that I decided to sell them at a local craft fair. My brain was so scattered from chemotherapy (chemo brain is seriously no joke!) it was very difficult to focus on one project at a time. Eventually, I had to name my business and 'Scatterbrain Handmade' seemed to fit the bill perfectly. For 7 years now, I have been making my work all by hand but my business is growing. So its time to take it to the next level!
Sargent Sealegs the Pirate is ready to set sail & fight any scallywags that dare to enter his ship! So you better not mess with him or hell make you walk the plank! Sargent comes detailed with a fleece peg leg, felt pirate hook, hat, and eyepatch all securely attached.
Frank is ELECTRIFYINGLY cute and is a perfect mix of Frankenstein & octopal ready to snuggle the living daylights out of you…. Literally. Franks bolts are made from felt with perfectly embroidered blood spots.
NOTE: In these photos Frank is made with fleece and has light grey bolts- I have told the factory to change his bolts to dark grey, and to make his fabric the same as Sargent & Roxie so they all fell the same. Super soft & cuddly of course!
And last but CERTAINLY not least, we have the magical Roxie the Octocorn! Roxie is the octocorn whose horn never really grew. But that doesn’t stop her- she is a rough and tough little gal who is ready for anything with her adventurous magical spirit! Roxie’s horn is made with sparkly soft fabric, that is securely attached.
I have been designing and sewing toys for 7 years now and I love every second of it. Nothing makes me happier knowing that something I have made is going to make someone else happy. It's the best feeling in the world. I work from home out of a home studio to sew my creations. Typically on any given Saturday or Sunday you can find me in Boston, MA on the Greenway or at SOWA which are two popular hot spots for outdoor markets. I spend my weekdays sewing and designing new products I think people will enjoy!

Production of Plush Toys
I have been working with the manufacturing company for 6 months trying to get these little guys just right for production. I started by mailing the company 3 samples of my work for prototypes. They then work with me to try and recreate to the best of their ability my designs. Their are lots of revisions made to make sure that each plush is correct and it takes quite a bit of time. Now that the final prototypes are completed, we can start production once the funds are raised. YAY!
Once the toys of ready they will be shipped by boat, which can take some time. The estimated arrival of the toys should be mid October, which is just in time for Halloween! Shipment will begin right away to backers to ensure you get you rewards as quickly as possible.
In the case that Scatterbrain exceeds its $9,000 Funding Goal, here are some fun stretch goals to get everyone excited! The first one is a doozy but 100% worth it! Let's reach those cookie cutters! More stretch goals will be added accordingly if we raise full potential funds!
My goal is to raise $9,000 dollars to create 250 of each design for this kickstarter. The $9000 covers the cost of the plush, shipping to and from the factory, shipping to all of you awesome pledgers, backer rewards, and kickstarter and stripe fees.
Risks and challenges
The good news is that all the designs are final, ready to be put into production, we are just waiting on the funding and once that comes through production starts right away. Back ups and delays can occur during production and shipment from the factory so there is a potential for delays on their end, but I will keep everyone up to date with any changes in the timeline for delivery fo the product the whole time. Estimated delivery of goods to backers will begin mid October.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
