We want to see more Women of Color in horror films!
Why does Hollywood create so few kickass roles for Black Women in this genre? We don't know... but instead of waiting for Hollywood, we’ve created our own kickass characters!
SAVAGE SISTAS is a horror story that features not just one… but FOUR leading Black Women! That’s right… FOUR. LEADING. BLACK. WOMEN. The survival instincts of these characters are off the charts.
SAVAGE SISTAS is not related to the 1974 action film SAVAGE SISTERS starring Gloria Hendry and by no means is this a Blaxploitation parody. This is a new twist on an old-fashioned horror story!
We’ve tried pitching this film concept to private investors and other Hollywood types and in the end they just didn’t get it. We think you will get it.
When four girlfriends from LA hit the road to Vegas for a weekend of fun they find themselves stranded on a desert highway and stalked by a mysterious highway patrolman. The nightmare is just beginning when they seek help from a family of locals at a nearby farmhouse and discover that the entire clan are psychotic killers, who make a sustainable living from trapping and killing unwary travelers. Relentlessly hunted by these vicious predators, there’s only one way out for these girlfriends… they’re got to kill to survive!
SAVAGE SISTAS is influenced by the classic 70s roadside horror films that started it all: DELIVERANCE, THE HILLS HAVE EYES and of course, the mother of all horror films THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Raw and definitely unpolished, these films are far from the glossy Hollywood productions put out today. Never predictable, the films of that era were definitely extreme, and viewers could expect that anything might happen. This is the experience we hope to deliver to our audience!
We’ve cast some exciting fresh faces in the roles of our stranded travelers… Erica Renee Davis, Denee Busby, Amazon Beard and Ladae Bond. These awesome actresses will bring true depth to our characters and make them feel real.
Recognize our family of psychotic killers? Robert Mukes (HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES), Jasper Cole (HANSEL & GRETEL) and Cory Richardson (HBO’s DEADWOOD).

We’re a group of people who have worked in the film and video production business for decades... Some of us have worked on Hollywood productions at one time or another, but mostly we work on TV commercials or video projects for corporate clients. This will be the first time all of us have worked together on a feature film.
Q: Where does the money go?
A: Most of the money goes into production. Although the technology of film making has become a lot less expensive over the years, there are still hard costs when it comes renting gear for camera, sound and lighting… as well as boring stuff like permits and insurance. And of course we have to pay our awesome cast and crew… and feed them… and house them out in the remote desert location where we’re filming. Like any other production, we’re getting a ton of favors from people who believe in this film… but some expenses are unavoidable. The post-production process is a lot more streamlined… this mostly involves editors, sound designers and composers… yeah, we’re getting favors here too. Last but not least, another portion of funds goes into the Kickstarter fees and rewards… printing posters and photos, Blu-rays, as well as postage.
Q: How risky is it to invest?
A: Once you make a donation to SAVAGE SISTAS for a selected pledge amount you will not be charged anything until we meet our fundraising goal. Once funded, SAVAGE SISTAS is a film that’s going to get made! We’ve come too far to turn back. Our goal is to complete this film and get it out into the world to be seen… We really need this film to succeed! (How else can we shoot the sequel?)
Q: What happens after the film is completed?
A: After we finish SAVAGE SISTAS, we’ll begin to market it through social media, film festivals, horror conventions and other advertising to create exposure before attempting to negotiate a distribution deal. We must rely on the strength of the film since we're not big Hollywood names. If we can’t find a solution with a distribution company, we’ll go the hard road and distribute it ourselves. It’s not our first choice, but other filmmakers have done it and so can we. We’re not going to stop!
What do you get?
We’ve put a lot of thought into creating cool rewards that match to specific pledge amounts… that’s a given… but you’ll get something more out of your support for SAVAGE SISTAS, which is the chance to participate in the making of a truly unique horror film! If you’re a fan of horror, or just want to see four Women of Color kicking ass, you can be a part of the SAVAGE SISTAS Family!
As Hollywood churns out big budget remakes and sequels of the classics, it’s up to independent filmmakers to get dirty and challenge audiences in the horror genre. Come with us… Let’s get dirty together.
Risks and challenges
SAVAGE SISTAS does not have a distributor attached. Distributors (like Studios who finance films) often rely on pre-sales, which require, for instance, certain actors that hold certain value in certain territories. We plan to negotiate with distributors AFTER we finish the film and have had a chance to get audience reactions at film festivals and other venues.
We will work hard to ensure rewards are delivered safely and on schedule to our backers. Most of the rewards should be fulfilled before April of 2016, which is when we hope to release the film and have all of our premieres and screenings.
