Satanic Panic Miniatures is setting out to produce affordable metal miniatures with lots of uses to the gaming tables of the world. By commissioning multi-part figures, we are enabling gamers to build warbands or armies in which literally every model could be unique.
We want to work with some of the best sculptors to bring modern reimagining of classic old school miniatures. For the Great Gnolls, the mighty Martin Buck was commissioned to sculpt the range, which is being launched with a great selection of infantry. Martin is currently sculpting a range of Great Gnoll cavalry mounted on Wild Boars. We reckon that with the optional parts from the infantry, you could make around 1200 unique cavalry. (No that's not a typo).
Beyond the Gnolls, there will be another reimagining of another classic fantasy tribe. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.
If you grew up in the 80s you'll certainly recognise where the inspiration for our models comes from. Satanic Panic Miniatures is not only reimagining the 'Golden Age Of Gaming', it's doing it in a bigger and better way than anyone has done previously.
The modular approach means that we can continuously add optional parts to existing ranges. For example, a basic 4 figure pack has somewhere around 100 possible configurations from the parts supplied
Other ranges are already being discussed, and all our ranges no matter how large or small will be multi-part. And trust me, when Martin told me the innovative things he could do with an 18mm high model, I had to do a double take.
Whoops! Did I say '18mm'? What could I be thinking of? (SEE UPDATE 17)
This Kickstarter campaign is being run to get the models into production, using a trusted name in the industry. The greens are already sculpted and paid for, which means that you'll have your models faster than if we had to start from scratch.
Previews of the sculpts on various forums have gone down really well and by polling prospective clients, I've been able to make tweaks here and there.
If you absolutely smash the funding goal and we take this project over the £5000.00 level, I'll have Martin sculpt the 'Great Wizard' the mysterious mage from the heart of G'Normandy who created the Great Gnolls, seated on his throne reading book of great magic on an ornate lectern.
What's more, I'll add it as an additional reward at a great price . But let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Here's a picture of the greens for the initial infantry range. Grab a calculator and do a few sums, and you'll see just how many variations you can make. It's pretty astounding and probably just a little insane...
Retro-compatibility is something that is at the frorefront of the Satanic Panic design ethos...
And now, a list of the packs you'll be able to choose from:
The following packs will all contain 4 of the body shown in addition to the heads and equipment shown.
We suggest wire or steel pins for spears & javelins (not included)
Over the duration of the campaign, I'll upload images of each of the components individually.
When the range goes live in the web store (not until after the Kickstarter pledges have shipped, of course) the price point on each pack will be £12.00.
All backers who pledge at a physical reward level, will get this beautiful retro 'badge' included with their rewards as 'thank you' from Satanic Panic Miniatures:
Risks and challenges
I have deliberately kept this a bare bones project because I want to get the models to you in as short a period as I possibly can. I have been in the industry for 30 years and the hobby for 40 in one way or another. I know how frustrating it is when something you want to get your hands on takes longer than advertised, and so I have set realistic shipping dates for the rewards. I am hands-on and because the greens are already in existence, I merely need to get them to the mould maker and cast up. Then, it's a case of packing and shipping to the ends of the Earth. I can see no unsurmountable challenges and by working with trusted names in the industry, I think any risks have been effectively negated. As long as I take care in picking and packing your rewards, everything should go swimmingly. What I will not do, is promise you lots of free stuff that gets in the way of getting the models you want, out to you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
