Children’s Hospital meets Blue Clues with a dash of pop culture.
From the insane mind of Sarah Seeds (Creator), brought to you by Edge In Motion, Infiniti Features, Sarah Seeds Productions and Directed by Michelle Cutolo, comes an unhinged comedy webseries: "Riding the D with Dr. Seeds." The story takes you into the life of Dr. Seeds, a non-licensed psychiatrist, dropping her knowledge on the D Train...whether people want her help or not. The Pilot will be broken down into 5 individual episodes, and each will explore Dr. Seeds’ past, present (and future?).
How did Dr. Seeds descend into her subway madness? Does she ever actually help any of these people? Did she at one time have a license to practice? Learn about Dr. Seeds’ turbulent history, how she hired her assistant, the Man in the Yellow Hat, her dramatic fall from grace, and even her constant struggle with her arch nemesis, Tabitha M.D.!
We're here on Kickstarter because there's SO much more to discover and explore in the world of Dr. Seeds. The New York City MTA/Subway system is a strange, mysterious place that is rarely explored in Film and TV today. It's a whole other world below the ground, and we've all had strange experiences while riding the train. Last summer, we filmed 5 videos for Dr. Seeds that collectively got over 75,000 Views! We set the bar pretty high for ourselves, and for the next round, we plan on blowing our old episodes out of the water.
We're proud to have not only a female creator, but also feature women in front of the camera, behind the camera, and above the line. Women can be funny. In fact, women can be aggressively funny. We are interested in weird, ballsy comedy that everyone finds hilarious, not typical girl-centric humor about "Ok-Cupid" and bad roommates. (Although some of that sh*t is hilarious!)
The Cast features a multitude of unexpected characters that shatter the norms of homogeneous comedy, and also include a few crazy characters from previous videos such as the Man in the Yellow Hat (Doryan Robinson) and Rebecca the Pregnant Lady (Lindsay-Elizabeth Hand).
“Riding the D with Dr. Seeds” will be your new favorite binge show, but we can’t do it without you.
Why 27K? That may seem like A LOT of money to most people, but for all of that we are getting a cast of 22+ characters including some name talent, a crew of 25+ people, locations all over Manhattan, equipment rentals, food to keep everyone from starving on set, AND 4 top notch "Above the Line" producers! We have assembled a dream team for a sweet price. We're talking 1992 US Men's Olympic Basketball "Dream" Team.
We are making a pilot... that's HUGE. We plan to take that pilot to various networks, distribution outlets, television festivals, events... the list goes on. We will do everything in our power to get this pilot seen on TV.
Money is EVIL, and Dr. Seeds would honestly prefer goats, but this is how it works. To put things into perspective:
- Average Network Pilot: $2.2 Million
- Average Indie Pilot: $150K
- What We Need: $27K
- Average Cost of A Goat: $135.28
We also made this bangin' chart of where your generous donations will go:
We promise to DELIVER a well-crafted series AND a tight-ass pilot.
If we go beyond our goal?! HOT DAMN. We have some great additions up our sleeves...
FINAL GOAL: $45K. If we get this, we will shoot an ADDITIONAL EPISODE... continuing the story of Dr. Seeds!
SIDE NOTE: Kickstarter and Amazon Payments collect around 10% of all Kickstarter donations, and we have included that number in our budget! Because we try to think of everything.
Above the line... but soooo below the belt...
[ Sarah Seeds / Creator / Dr. Seeds ] Sarah is THRILLED to continue to play, create, and embody Dr. Seeds (& live out her crazy thoughts and experiences on NYC's mass-transit system). As a bicoastal actress based in NYC, Sarah has appeared in TV Shows, Webseries, Films, Off-Broadway plays, and in national Voiceover campaigns. Most recently, Sarah can be seen in the comedy series 'Wildcats,' directed by Rachel Puchkoff (streaming on FULLSCREEN) and 'The Networker,' directed by John Gallagher. Sarah was also cast in Gabrielle Altobelli's international Feature Film, "American Fango," now ready to hit theaters and the festival circuit. Recently, Sarah booked the role of Darlene in John Gallagher's "All Mobbed Up" with a star-studded cast (including "The Sopranos" Vincent Pastore). She was recently seen in Season 2 of "The Affair" on Showtime. [ sarahseeds.com / IMDB / Facebook ]
[ Lindsay-Elizabeth Hand / Producer / Rebecca The Pregnant Lady ] Lindsay-Elizabeth Hand is dedicated to entertaining you at all costs. She was born in North Carolina and raised in Georgia, but don't worry, she has all her teeth. Lindsay moved to New York City seven years ago, and is now a SAG-AFTRA Actress, an award-winning writer, currently in the Advanced Study Program at Upright Citizens Brigade. She received a BFA in Performance from Columbus State University in 2009, and has been on a roll ever since. Lindsay created Edge In Motion, her own Production Company, in 2011, and from that point, producing and acting have become her only jobs. This year has been especially lucky because she had the opportunity to pitch two TV Pilots (Awful Terrible Lizards and 20-Something) to networks...so keep your freakin' fingers crossed for her. She can’t wait to pitch Dr. Seeds once everything is completed, and she knows this strange female-driven comedy is exactly what networks are searching for! Because of her recent work on screen and behind the scenes, Lindsay has caught the eye of several publications including A.V. Club & Flavorwire for her original comedy series Cruel Children, NYCastings on "How to Book Repeat Biz" and a featured article in Theater Geek. [ lindsayelizabethhand.com / IMDB ]
[ Michelle Cutolo / Director ] Michelle is super stoked to be the newest team member for "Riding the D with Dr. Seeds." She is a NYC-based director with an emphasis on clever, funny, and creative work. Michelle has directed and/or produced commercial spots for The Container Store, Buick, ISmart Alarm, and LensCrafters to name a few. Her music video work has been featured in Rolling Stone. She's acquired the experience to direct quality narratives, and name talent such as Evelina Barry, Ellie Kemper, and Amy Helm, among others. Michelle can't wait to ride the D with Dr. Seeds, and change some lives! [ michellecutolo.com ]
[ David Russo / Executive Producer ] AKA "the old man in the room." David is (insert hip and culturally appropriate term for excited) to be working with such a (how do kids these days say talented?) group of artists. He created Infiniti Features in 2015 with the goal of helping the next generation of creative minds (are you still allowed to say, “do their thang?”). He is the Executive Producer for the comedy series “Cruel Children” (created by Dr. Seeds producer-extraordinaire Lindsay-Elizabeth Hand and Jeff Rabinak, who is also editing Dr. Seeds.) He's also produced several music videos by Philadelphia-based musician Victoria Watts. David was a founding member of the improv comedy troupe “Chaos Theory,” which played in Chicago in the early 1990’s (while most of his Dr. Seeds companions were, as they say, wee lads and lasses.) In 2008, he co-founded “The Company Theatre,” which was recently accepted as a member of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance. David has a theatre degree from Northwestern University, and has ridden the D frequently. (#NotAEuphemism). [ IMDB ]
[ T Zhang / Line Producer ] T is originally from the Bay Area in California, and is a graduate from the Kanbar Institute of Film and Television at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Ever since his first horror film shot during high school, T Zhang has been addicted to filmmaking and honing his skills in producing. His films have garnered numerous awards, and have appeared in local San Jose theaters as well as on cable television. His short "Believe in Me" has aired on the KCSM local channel. "Nomad" swept the awards at the 3 Day Film Challenge, where it received Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Soundtrack, Best Film, and the Audience Award. T Zhang's films and music videos have been sponsored by Red Bull, Merlion, Beats by Dre, and INgrooves. His music videos "I'm Not Driving" and "The Eloise Suite" have premiered on CMJ.com and The Village Voice. T has also produced music videos for D.R.A.M., Joey Bada$$, and Mick Jenkins with his founded company GDBYM. His produced music videos have a collective viewing of over 20 Million Views on YouTube. His works have been featured in "Rolling Stone," "The Fader," "Noisey," and "BBC." [ gdbym.com ]
