Alice (ARIEL BATY/LEAH CHANDLER MILLS) lapses out of consciousness and into different time periods encountering a strange man (MICHAEL LEE) from the present shadowing her. As the barriers between fantasy and reality breakdown, Alice finds the courage to transend both demensions as her soul departs.
Waking Eyes is a surreal short exploring the overlap between fantasy and reality through a woman in a coma. The metaphysical journey takes her out of time drifting into a Roman military outpost, a English Manor in WWII, a Medieval forest, and even an Elizabethan palace.
The title "Waking Eyes" is inspired from Lewis Carroll's poem Life is But a Dream.
Waking Eyes was shot over six days on location, with a volunteer cast and crew and the participation of local Roman and WWII re-enactors. Waking Eyes is Sarah R. Lotfi's Senior Capstone project for her degree in Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
We're only seeking funding to get Waking Eyes to film festivals. Just enough to print DVD screeners, cover entry fees (they ain't that cheap) and shipping costs. To submit to 35 festivals it will cost us $2,500. That does not even cover travel costs to attend festivals, all we're asking you is to help us get the film there.
Director Sarah R. Lotfi's last short to make the festival run ended up garnering numerous awards and finishing in the national finals of the 37th Student Academy Awards. Who knows what's ahead for Waking Eyes, please help us get this to the next level!
