I’ve often said that recording and releasing music is like getting pregnant and giving birth. The songs are nurtured and allowed to grow in a safe environment till eventually they are ready to be released for others to hold. I have always loved this process and have repeated it over and over till, once again, I find myself gathering songs like DNA, clumping them together till I see the heart, backbone, and skin of my album. But there is something extraordinary happening this time. Something that makes explosions in my chest. Something that has made the air around me electric and my thoughts like fireworks. Here is the something: Alongside new music being made there is a real, literal baby. Real flesh and bones growing. Real lungs and fingertips perfecting. “How”, you might say? “Sarah I didn’t know you were pregnant,” you might say. Well technically I am not pregnant, except with hope, with longing and a desire for more children, so Jonny and Scarlett and I are adopting and we can’t wait for this tiny hope bundle to arrive.
So where am I going with this?
Here’s our idea:
I have been pulling songs together for a new EP side project and Jonny and I are excited to be working on it alongside a couple of super talented friends. One of these friends, who you may remember helped Jonny produce my last CD “Current,” is the brilliant:
Mr. JT Daly
(He is also the lead singer of the ridiculously good band Paper Route).
I have also brought in my dear friend:
Miss Mia Fieldes
(she is a mad talented word wizard who has worked on many of the songs you listen to on the radio)
You may recognize her name from being a part of the Hillsong team in Sydney, Australia for years.
I have brought in my song scraps and we have said, “How could we make a really fun, different, explosive, creative EP from these bits and pieces?” We have all gathered our bows and arrows and gone on the hunt for words, sounds, beats, tones, melodies and ohhhhh I can’t stop grinning at what is being captured.
This project is not going to be called a “Sarah MacIntosh EP” because I thought it might be more fun to think of another name for it so that it stands apart from everything else I’ve done. Instead, it will be called:
“A Thousand Champions.”
I can’t wait for you to hear it. But, for now…Will you help me fund this project and as a result help me also raise money for our adoption?
We have made the Kickstarter goal $10,000. I only receive the money and you only receive the project and incentives if we reach the Kickstarter goal, so we kept it lower so that the possibility of funding is more likely. I am so thankful that you are even at this page contemplating supporting me and my family and my music in this way. It truly makes my heart full. So thank you, thank you, thank you (imagine this hundreds more times and that would still not be enough thanks).
p.s. if you liked the music in the background of the video, thats a "work in progress" of a "A Thousand Champions" song... :)
Risks and challenges
The only potential risk would be a delay in receiving the reward. As most of you know, sometimes projects get delayed for random reasons, its just the way it is... But rest assured we will see this project to the end and you will get your reward! We are as excited to see this project completed as you guys are!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
