The early 20th century of the United States was rife with fantastic change: from the rise of industry giants, to the great experiment of Prohibition, to the tragedy of the Great Depression, and the dawning of the Atomic Age. The sky was tamed, the world was mapped, and the possibilities of science seemed limitless, all blue skies and buttered toast.
Sure, maybe for them.
Some of us got nothin' but turned-out pockets, turned-up noses, and turned-down loans. Some of us had a lotta clouds and no silver linings. And that wasn't gonna fly. These stories aren't about your fancy parties, your war medals, and your mansion in the hills. These stories are about what happens under the gilded eaves and the red lights. This is the URBAN JUNGLE. This is where it happened, and this is how it went down.
URBAN JUNGLE is a tabletop role-playing game set in early 20th century America. Inspired by lighter fare like CATS DON'T DANCE and SCROOGE McDUCK, and the darker stories of BLACKSAD and LACKADAISY. this game makes you a player in a world of pulp-adventure, hard-boiled crime, and film noir. You'll tangle with hardened gangsters, with jaded debutantes, with world-wear war veterans, and with all kinds of shady characters. Don't let the long whiskers and the wagging tails fool you. A smile is just another way of baring teeth.
A complete game in one volume, URBAN JUNGLE will be fully-illustrated in (what else?) black-and-white noir, with art direction by Pat Kelley and Norman Rafferty, veterans of many Sanguine projects. Using the CARDINAL game engine, you'll be able to move from gun-fights, to punch-ups, to bail-outs, to get-aways, quickly and easily.
Our cartoon world of film noir will include adventures and places, from the blood-soaked alleys of gang-infested TRICOGHA to the rum-runners and carpet-baggers of SUNSHINE CITY, to the casting couches and movie black-lists of SAN DORADO, to the bayous and boondocks of BELLEGARDE, and then back again to the skyscrapers of the sleepless SHAYSEN CITY. Our game gives you the key details of each place and plenty of seedy action that doesn't show up in your history books.

You can describe a character from the early 20th century America, their species and their look, their hopes and dreams, their plans and schemes, etc., and one of our steely-eyed artists will draw it for you. Our basic goal is to give you a game about gumshoes, gun-runners, gangsters, grifters, and gaslighters. There's lots of material for exciting noir adventure. But if we can push further, we can open up some more possibilities:
- If we can reach $3,000, we can add a supplement for PULP HORROR, where these furry people are hardly masters of their own universe. Flying polyps, fungus from space, time-traveling shamblers, and sanity-draining spells are all options.
- If we can reach $4,000, we can add a supplement for SERIAL SCI-FI, of the likes of Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon. Atomic rayguns, riveted rocket-ships, and other artifacts of the one-reelers that ran before the main feature.
- Going further into $5,000, we can have IT CAME FROM THE DRIVE-IN, as the deadly seriousness of film noir turns into the cheap camp of exploitation movies. Have fun with your game by making it self-aware, where you can use plot holes, bad editing, and stock footage to your personal advantage!
