About this project
The Dead Linger is a first-person zombie survival sandbox in which you can venture into a vast, undead world, surviving and exploring in whatever way suits you best.

We're creating a game first and foremost about your choices, and those choices determine your survival in this zombie-filled world. The goals you have are the goals you set. Scavenging, exploring, fortifying, building, barricading, and of course, fighting off the zombie hordes.
The world of The Dead Linger is randomly generated, and it is the size of a small planet. We don't simply mean it's large, we truly mean it's planet-sized. About 25,000 kilometers, to be exact. Every new world created will be different, and you can explore every inch of it, indoors and outdoors, every window, every door.
You've found a hideout. Now what? Barricade it! Fortify it! Defend it! You probably need a place to keep your stuff. You might need a place to house your clan, or maybe you just like a particular building you found. If you choose, you can fortify and defend
Supporting up to at least 16 players in a single world, The Dead Linger can be played solo or with a group of friends watching your back.
We're bringing Player vs. Player to the zombie apocalypse! Have you ever wanted to shoot it out through a massive city-scape, with zombies intermingling and causing chaos in between? The Dead Linger will feature solo, cooperative, and PvP game modes for whatever flavor you prefer.
And we need YOUR help!
In order to get our key team members working full time on this project, and in order to ensure we bring everything promised here, we need your help. Who are we? http://www.sandswept.net/inside/meet-the-team
We are asking for $60,000, a goal that will allow us a full-time development window of at least 6 months, on top of the 6 months we've already been working on it. We expect to have a polished Alpha release within 3 to 6 months.
In order to get TDL out there and into your hands as soon as we can, we're releasing the game once it is in a polished Alpha stage. Players will be able to buy it for a lower price during Alpha, play it, and give us feedback and suggestions. The game will eventually migrate into Beta stage, and then the final Release stage.
We want nothing more than to see The Dead Linger created. It's a game that we want to make, and we want to play. We want you to be a part of it.
Survivors, there is still hope for the zombie genre. It can be found here!
If you pay $25, you earn BOTH $25 rewards, not just one! It doesn't matter which of the two rewards you choose.
We would love to bring The Dead Linger to other platforms. The bottom line is -- more funding, greater chance of having the resources for a console version in the future.
Yes, if you buy the game (or otherwise receive it through these rewards) you will get Alpha and Beta access as well.
Windows PC for now, we're planned to also get some Mac and Linux support out there later on!
Not a this time. We will definitely consider it for the future.
If you're interested in sending us a job app, please visit http://www.sandswept.net/jobs/.
If you just want to help out, we'll be opening up our contribution submission system later down the road!
TDL will not have any DRM. It can be played offline/LAN and you can install it wherever you please!
Will The Kickstarter item make the game unbalanced or unfair for those who didn't back the project on Kickstarter?
In short: No.
The Kickstarter item will not be something like a powerful gun. It's both functional and cosmetic, but it won't so much as cause a minor discrepancy in PvP or other balance. We're being very careful about the type of item. We're doing an update on it pretty soon, stay tuned!
No. The Dead Linger is a multiplayer (optional) first person shooter zombie survival horror. It has quite a few RPG elements as well. Game servers are not hosted on our end, so clans, individuals, and communities can host their own.
Barricading and fortifying structures is a massive part of The Dead Linger experience. Players will be able to free-form barricade, moving furniture, nailing boards, and more, wherever they please in order to make a sturdy (or not so sturdy) defense against the undead hordes. With a hammer and nails, or just by pushing things around a room, you can block and fortify any door against. The quality of your defense depends entirely on how you and your friends build it. Build smart, maintain often, and stay alert.
There will be less direct building, and tons of modifying. (See "Barricading") As for actual building, fences and cinderblocks should allow for plenty of wall-building, among other things.
We don't have system requirements yet. We will have some available in the future, and we're trying to ensure it runs on lower end machines.
Kickstarter is responsible for all the payment methods, which require a credit card.
We've reached our goal and we've now opened up seperate donations via PayPal! You can donate to us here: http://www.thedeadlinger.com/donate
If we don't reach 60,000, we won't receive any of the pledged money (and you won't be charged.) However, there is a much more exciting outcome. That is the outcome in which we do go over $60,000. In the event that we go well over our $60,000 goal, we will not only be able to better supply our team, getting the game out that much sooner and more polished, we will also drop a few more awesome rewards!
We would like to bring The Dead Linger to Mac and Linux later on in the future. As for right now, we are focusing on the Windows PC version.
After (if) the Kickstarter goal is reached, and then the deadline is reached, we will send out a survey (via Kickstarter) asking for various info, such as your email address and your http://Sandswept.net Legion account name. Please create and keep these accounts, for they are how we will deliver your rewards (for example, a game key) when the time comes.
To create a Sandswept Legion account, please register here. (http://www.sandswept.net/forums/ucp.php…
We have plans for modding support later on in development. We believe quite highly in supporting mod communities and we'd be very excited to see what sort of things people create.
