About

Hello, I’m Sana, a hardworking and dedicated graphic illustrator. I was raised in Coventry, home to a variety of historical architecture developed from the remains of the war, which has been a massive source of inspiration during my upbringing. My creative journey began at a young age. Since lower school, art has always been my favourite subject and being an avid reader of artists’ books allowed me to explore and evolve my own ideas. I grasp inspiration by looking through famous artists’ work and the techniques that they use. While I was inspired by the colours used by Turner, I was enthralled by the work of Wiltshire for his panoramic pieces and refined detail. These combined styles have shone through in the subtlety of my work. Despite the absence of role models in the family to look up to, I was bold in my decisions and am proud to fill this position for my younger siblings. Currently studying for a BA in Illustration and Graphics at Coventry University, I am able to work on my own initiative, look forward to fresh challenges and enjoy working as part of a team. I always aim to strive to my greatest potential. I spend much of my spare time improving my skills and crafting my style, ranging from abstract paintings to detailed drawings.

I specialise in illustration for its originality and innovative freedom, reminding me to constantly keep my mind open to new ideas. I am passionate about many areas of art including fashion illustration, Arabic calligraphy (which was originated from China and was used as a tool to communicate, after it appeared in architecture), typography, landscape and architecture. I have studied all aspects in depth throughout my educational life. I have also worked on various portfolios in order to present my work in a professional manner. Art enables me to show my personality and thoughts through my work. I have studied intensively into the architectural themes of art as I view this as a natural way to express myself. I have a good understanding of what works well visually in terms of colour context, composition, contrast and positioning and I often like to experiment with a wide range of materials and colour. My strengths lie in abstract art and acrylic painting.

I want to complete my studies at a masters level in illustration or alternatively educate others at degree level to demonstrate my personal growth to potential employers and have the opportunity to develop my portfolio. This will bring me success.

I want to pursue a career in the creative industry in London, either at a design agency or an illustration company. After having a few years of experience in the business, I have the desire to become a university lecturer. I believe I have the enthusiasm for my specialist subject and the ability to transfer this proficiency on to students. I am able to state my past experiences and my creative journey that led me this far. I am confident with building relationships and I feel that I have the capability to not only work independently but as part of a team to achieve personal research and ultimate goals.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

I am a university student who is raising funds to publish an architectural artist’s book within religion. The target market is from 16 year olds and above who are studying an art based course or have an interest in architecture. It has been an 11-week process. The idea came to mind as I was admiring my surroundings. I am passionate about architecture and I like producing art within this theme. Religion means a lot to me, therefore I combined the two together. As architectural designs are always developing in everyday life, I knew I could turn it into a successful project. This book enables you to explore holy structures that have evolved over centuries, contemporary architecture, religious quotes and the celebration of the divide. If my project is successful, I will publish various copies of the book. The reason for this is, people often crave knowledge and a better understanding of the world and religion.

Society needs religion, the main reason being to regulate behaviour. Life would be different without religion as it provides mental peace and strengthens self-confidence. The significance of religion is that it gives us something to believe in and brings societies and nations together. Faith is increasing and 84% of the global population identifies with a religious group. People have to believe that there is a reason for life and religion provides this for them. Religion is what gives people the desire in their daily lives and to make the world a better place. There is a meaning behind religion, and it raises value.

I have a strong opinion when it comes to religion, I am religious, and I believe in Islam. There is only one God (Allah) and Muhammad (pbuh) is the messenger of God. As mentioned in the Quran, “seek help through patience and prayer.” Prayer is very important as a Muslim. Places of worship are specially designed, sacred structures for individuals or a group of people (congregation) to perform acts of devotion. Places of worship have shaped cultures and traditions. Religious architecture expresses the different religious beliefs and aesthetic choices.

Architecture is the art of constructing buildings, with regard to a certain period, place or culture. The main purpose of architecture is to improve human life and create spaces for various activities as it lets our surroundings progress with modern design innovations. A structure of a building can bring balance to people’s lives. The best building structures are the ones that enhance productivity, studies show that areas with attractive architecture and design build stronger communities with neighbourhoods and businesses.

I think diversity is important as people come together from various backgrounds and with different life experiences. This consists of race, ethnicity, gender and age and religious affiliation. Experiencing diversity on a regular basis enables strong communication skills and interaction across cultures. Diversity holds a great reputation in workplaces for companies, valuing diversity helps recognise and acknowledge the differences between people. Understanding people and their beliefs is crucial to personal and community growth. Diversity makes the world go around. Life would be boring if everyone was the same, diversity is colourful, new ideas and views are needed in order to inspire, love and celebrate!

Risks and challenges

Selling is one risk as it will take time and effort to identify and target my audience. Getting people to actually be interested in buying the book.
The workload never ends: producing and marketing involves a lot of responsibility.
There are many expenses.

I plan to overcome these potential risks by promoting the book in a clear and concise manner, identifying the target audience in order for people to be interested in buying my book.
I will take responsibility and budget myself so that I don't lose large amounts of money and invest wisely.
