About this project
I’m going on a Date Trip – and I’m taking you with me! A small film crew and I are traveling through twelve cities in four states to explore the attractions along the way… and I’m not just talking about tourist traps. YouTube episodes will air each week throughout July and August and the blog will feature companion pieces so you can follow our journey every step of the way!
Thanks to an overwhelmingly positive response from backers, Date Trip has official met its minimum project goal, but we still have a ways to go! The project goal only takes into account the travel costs listed below - it does not include the dates! So help us make our reach goals so we can go on even crazier, more awesome adventures each episode!! (Because 12 trip to Starbucks just isn't as interesting as skydiving.)
- $3,400 - Goretorium (Eli Roth's Las Vegas haunted house)
- $3,900 - Skydiving
- $3,950 - Bowling date in SLO
- $4,000 - Alfred Hitchcock Film Festival
- $4,200 - Ke$ha concert in Palo Alto
This series (and these dates) can only happen with your help. Not only will you earn exclusive rewards (like postcards from the road and your very own song), but your contribution will make it possible for me to combine my love of road trips with my passion for film – and maybe even work through a little heartbreak along the way. Pitch in what you can and let’s get this show on the road… literally!
With your donation, I’ll rent a fully-insured compact car for the duration of the trip. That way, when things come up (and they always do), the solution will be as simple as a tow and a car swap at the nearest rental place. When you help us meet our goal, you’re making sure we arrive at all of our destinations safely and on time! That means more fun for us and more episodes for you.
I will be accompanied by Jazmin Mendoza, who will not only serve as the project's editor, but will also be filling the role of super-fun travel companion! Long ago, she captured my heart at a pizza buffet and we've been friends ever since.
UPDATE: (5/19) I am pleased to announce that Rose Oser will be joining Date Trip as assistant director and our camera person! Rose and I met in 2011 when she directed "New Year's Kiss," my zombie musical. She has never missed an opportunity to remind me that "we are fucking professionals."
While the project video I posted is fun, the quality isn't quite up to snuff - I am limited to what I can come up with using just my iPhone and the editing software included on my computer. That's why I need these guys! Imagine what a project with a real camera and crew can do. So check out the rewards to the right and donate what you can. When you donate, you’ll be making sure I have the creative talents and equipment I need to give you a quality episode.

Risks and challenges
My stepdad once told me, "When you're traveling, you have to remember to use the F-word. Flexibility."
There is no way to anticipate all the trouble that might come up along the way - a blown out tire, engine trouble, a maniacal hitchhiker set on revenge. But by renting a car with insurance, you already know I'm eliminating 80% of the potential problems (okay, that still doesn't solve the maniacal hitchhiker dilemma, but you can't have it all, Sofia Bush).
Any other challenges will be viewed as opportunities for the webseries - opportunities to spice up the episode, heighten the drama, and put on our creative-problem-solving hats. And if I learned anything from watching "Crossroads," it's that a little willingness (and some karaoke skills) will go a long way on the road. I'm flexible. I'm willing. And as sexy as that may sound, it really is the perfect combination for travel.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
