About this project
Hi! This is Sam from the band Black Tape For A Blue Girl. Please help me shoot an erotic, cute & slinky video for the "Milly Mix" of Marmalade Cat (listen to some of the mix in the fundraiser video above). The video will be quite yiffy, featuring Narcissa, it's a woman's sensual kitty alter-ego. Musical furry fandom I will conceive, direct & edit! (check out the previous video I created with Narcissa at youTube.) Your pledges are going to make this video possible [and contributions of $25 of more gets you a pre-order on the Tenderotics album.]
Sam is the songwriter / founder behind Black Tape For A Blue Girl. He began the band in 1986, released 10 studio albums, and has played 149 shows. Their albums fall in the darkwave genre, with Goth, Heavenly Voices, ethereal and Dark Cabaret sounds.
Narcissa is a model who wears many sets of ears, including stylist, performer, promoter and most of all, a collaborative artist. Sam discovered her by the side of the road, meowing and hissing in a crate. Narcissa willingly let Sam pick her up, smooth her ruffled fur, and set her on the path to success. Thus far, she's worked with over 40 different artists in a variety of multi media. A Bio and Portfolio, NarcissaCaptured: A Portfolio. <-NSFW
The "Milly Mix" is by Steve Jones (of the band Area & The Arms of Someone New); vocals are by the wonderful Laurie Reade. The song is on the upcoming Blacktape Tenderotics album. It's a collection of mostly instrumental mixes and reworkings of songs from Blacktape's 10 Neurotics album; release is scheduled for June.
Watch the video at the top -- it's silly & informative!
Kickstarter is based on "crowd-funding." Your pledges help make our video a reality. If we reach the $2000 goal, the project funds. So we need everyone's help here. If we don't reach the goal, nobody is charged. Take a minute to pick your kitty and pledge your support. You get some sweet prizes! Check over there to the right ------->
Please spread the word about this Kickstarter on Facebook or your blog.
The limited-edition furry slipcase
The $35 Marmalade Cat Pledge includes the Tenderotics CD in a limited edition hand-sewn furry slipcase (not REAL fur, it's man-made); if you can afford it, please go in with at least the $35 level. Narcissa and I would really appreciate that.
"Narcissa," you ask, "who's that?" Narcissa portrayed the Marmalade Cat in the 10 Neurotics booklet. We've created a few other videos together; so we kinda know what we're doing (lol), you can check them out here:
- "The Pleasure and the Pain" video at youTube
- a Projektfest commercial at youTube
- And a quick 2009 Marmalade teaser at youTube.
You're probably asking yourself, "What do you need $2000 for? Can't you just make a video at home on your computer?" Well, yeah, I do edit at home on my computer. I edit in Vegas on a Bootcamped iMac. I already have a very nice camera too. But a video is more than just the editing. It's the filming and creation process. Your support will be used to:
- hire a small crew (cameraman, wardrobe/stylist)
- buy gear (lights, stands)
- get Narcissa's kitty costume just right
- create props
- rent a location
The video will be absolutely yiffy in a PG-13-kinda-way, it's going on YouTube, afterall!
Your contributions will make this possible. Thanks so much. ----->
MORE ABOUT MARMALADE CAT and TENDEROTICS
"Marmalade Cat" is about a woman who enjoys her second skin of Marmalade (she sees herself as an anthropormorphic animal character - a "furry" in street parlance), she wishes society would let her be. The original is about the desire to be left alone, permitted to enjoy life as she imagine it, rather than as we're all so often told we should be. Steve Jones' "Milly Mix" puts a focus on the hotness of the song, not the drama. It dwells in her sensual kitty alter-ego. It's definitely furry fandom, adorable, sexy, cuddly, sneaky.... Listening to the song, I was inspired to begin work on a video.
I love that it is so different from what I would usually create as Black Tape For A Blue Girl. I kind of like the unexpected! Steve's mix takes my original tracks and adds a beat and some space, and make it fun and juicy and erotic. The original version of the song is available now on the 10 Neurotics album, at Projekt or iTunes.
Steve describes the song: "It's trip-hop meets fur and lust... strip-hop... comparisons with Groove Armada and Ben Watt, but darker and more sensual ... I imagine purring, touching, comfort, adrenaline, whispers and intimacy, an ebb and flow of sensations."
The "Milly Mix" of Marmalade Cat will be on the Tenderotics release in June; the album contains mixes by Steve Jones, Shikhee (Android Lust), Steve Roach, Erik Wollo and myself. Over the course of time, Tenderotics evolved in two separate directions. My initial instrumental/reprocessing idea and a more poppy approach to things. It's kind of interesting and dichotic that way. Keepin' me on my toes. I like that!
I'd love to show you an image of the Tenderotics album, but I don't have a cover, yet. Not only is this a Video Shoot, it's also a cover shoot! And you can help make it happen by pledging something up there to the right ------>
