About this project
Stretch Goal 1: £2600
If we hit £2600 before the end of the Kickstarter, Alex and I will share the PDF of a Fair Fight with every backer. This is a 5 page, light-hearted story we worked on as warm-up before trying Kristo, and tells a tale of Barbarian domesticity.
Kristo, The Confession of Isaak Solzhenitsyn
This project has been funded by the glorious workers of Russia!
This document has been designated for authorised F.S.B. Officers with a security clearance of AAA.
If you are not authorised to access AAA level documents, you must immediately cease reading and report yourself to the nearest office of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.
Failure to comply is punishable by up to twenty year incarceration.
What is Kristo?
When the Nobel Laureate Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was only a baby, his father Isaak died in a hunting accident.
Then explain how we come to be in possesion of a copy of 'The Confession of Isaak Solzhenitsyn', written in 1951, thirty years after his death.
A document judged so inflamatory that it has remained sealed by order of the N.K.V.D. for the past fifty years, only coming to light after the death of Aleksandr.
What is Kristo about?
A story of how a Cossack officer was betrayed and incarcerated for twenty years by his three closest friends, how he assumed another man's identity to escape and then took his final, bloody revenge.
Who is making Kristo?
They have requisitioned the support of colourist Kris Carter (Transformers, Dr. Who) and editor Yannick Morin (Epic Kill), both given full AAA clearance by the Commissariat of the Socialist Peoples of Russia.
Alex is the writer/artist on the creator owned projects "Moonstruck" and "Robotika". He has also recently contributed artwork to "Dark Crystal: Creation Myths", "Outlaw Territory", "Legends of Mouse Guard", and "A1 Annual". He lives and works in Northern California.

How can I help?
Please consider diverting funds from your department's operational budget to this project, for printing and publishing expenses. Agents Sheikman and Roads are willing to reward your department, according to the scale of your donation. Details on the right.
Mother Russia thanks you for your support.
Hey Kickstarters. This is Sam and Alex, and we'd like to thank you for visiting our page and supporting our campaign. If you pick one of the rewards on the right you won't get charged immediately. You get charged only when we hit our target, at the end of the thirty days.
Kristo looks like it's going to be something special, but we can't complete it without your support. Please dig deep if you like to help independent creators, if you like comics with heart (and no spandex), or if you'd really like to know the full story of Isaak Solzhenitsyn.
Thanks each and every one of you.
Sam Roads and Alex Sheikman, June 2013.
Risks and challenges
Making Kristo into the biggest success it can be will require we overcome three hurdles.
1.) Producing the content. Whilst the team is set up and ready for the off, they tend to work better when they're fed. I can currently afford to give them a thin gruel, but with your donations, they can enjoy one, maybe even two slices of toast while they work.
More seriously, Kristo has a world-beating team. As long as no-one is hit by a bus, we're good to go. (Who is this person who is driving a bus around trying to kill creative types?)
2.) Publishing. We're in talks with indie publishers in the UK and the US to see if Kristo can find a home, though another possibility is self publishing - something I have years of experience at from my background in indie game production.
3.) Promotion. In my day job I deal with huge online marketing campaigns, as well as free viral marketing schemes. I have a wide network of contacts, not just amongst UK comics, but also internationally through my background in gaming.
Kristo would make an astounding movie. If this Kickstarter project hits its target, we do have a real chance of turning a Small Indie Comic into a Very Big Success.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
