Block Happy is the first card game that plays with your emotions. Seize all the happiness first, and you win! But with so many comical twists and turns, keeping control of your happiness isn't that easy. It's a strategic, funny and emotionally powered game, where players take turns showing and finding emotions, until all the happiness is on the table, and on your face!
It sounds simple, but other players want your happiness to be theirs, and so a hilarious battle of emotion begins. All 70 unique emotional creature cards have different powers, allowing you to control, annoy, peek, grab or test your opponents happiness, whilst keeping hold of your own. The trick to winning, is deciding which emotions to hide and show, when to play them, who to control and when not to laugh.
Created by two leading designers Sam Armes and John Ward, this game will entertain and engage your emotions in a different and playful way. We’ve changed the way you play a game, because even though you think you’re playing a card game, you’re actually playing with each other’s real emotions, from feeling outraged one minute to overjoyed the next, and 68 others in between.
So, if you love playing with people, emotions, ninjas, panic buttons and cake, to name a few, please help us by clicking on the pledge button to the right of the video. We’ve got a funny feeling (or 70 in fact), that you’ve never played a game quite like this before. It’s a world of emotion in a little box. It will make you happy, and who doesn’t want more happiness. Play it, feel it and believe it!

Can you put real happiness in a box and play with it?
With a life-long love of character design and games, and over 15 years of designing game changing ideas for famous brands worldwide, Sam & John decided it was time to turn their creative daydream into reality. To create something different and daring, that's never been done before in a tabletop game.
Block Happy began when Sam proposed an idea to John - What’s the one thing that everyone wants? Happiness! That feeling of pure joy that comes over you when you know life is good, and you can’t help but smile. So, could we create an real emotional experience in a game, with the concept of playing for your happiness.
We make thousands of decisions everyday, and 95% of them are emotional. We’re social and emotional creatures, and building a game around this theme felt so unique and exciting. A game of emotion, humour, risk, tension and excitement, with the simple aim of winning happiness. We loved it, and couldn’t find anything like it.
We created a set building game with a difference - where everyone wants the same set; happiness! Next, we developed how your real feelings could drive the gameplay, the art and how they play out in your hand. We designed various risk strategies to seize happiness and defend it from other players, and worked out how various emotions would react with each other to control happiness. A game where you play it and actually feel it too. The challenge was designing the art of emotions in 70 unique works of art in a game. Check out how some of our ideas began.
Many tabletop games are either easy to learn, with random and predictable gameplay, or heavily strategic, serious and take hours to play. The one thing that noticed, is that every game is played at face value, with little emotional connection with the game itself or between the players. When you play Block Happy, we’ve changed that. It’s a different way to play. A game simple enough to learn as a party game, but complicated enough to allow for emotional strategy, tactics and control to develop and evolve, ensuring all the players stay in the game until the very end.
We showed the game idea to friends and colleagues, and there were smiles of disbelief - until they started playing it! Within minutes, we heard "This is awesome! I want another game. How did you come up with this, people will love it?"
Using a illusion block format was the perfect solution for bringing the emotions to life as little creatures. All 70 of them were invented, named, strategised, designed and illustrated by us, taking many months. Now, fast forward 18 months, and here we are, and the best thing is that our friends are asking us to play it, which makes us feel super happy!

Risks and challenges
Although this is our first Kickstarter project, the production of the game itself, sticker packs and enamel pins should ‘hopefully’ be quite straight forward. Having spent several months researching and talking to experienced game manufacturers, we’ve chosen a specialist game manufacturer with a brilliant worldwide reputation for quality, communication and reliability, who are highly experienced in dealing with successful Kickstarter projects in large volumes. So, we feel confident and happy that they will provide the best quality cards, tooling, packaging and printing. In addition to this, we have extensively researched various global game fulfilment and shipping companies, so that Block Happy reaches you within our time frame for the best price.
It’s really important to us that everyone gets their game on time, and feels happy with what they receive. If you back our project, please know that we’re committed to sending you a great quality game. That’s why we’re not offering loads of tiers or add ons, which could slow or complicate the distribution process. Our aim is to keep it as simple and exciting as possible.
Shipping: The shipping will be charged when the campaigns end through our pledge manager. See the shipping section for full details. The shipping prices are an estimate and subject to change depending on exchange rates and new taxes etc.
Refund policy: Any refund request received within 10 days of this Kickstarter campaign ending will be refunded in full. This Kickstarter is being funded in GBP, so ‘in full’ refers to a full refund of the GBP value received. After 14 days have passed from the moment the Kickstarter has finished we will only be able to refund 70% of the amount paid. This is due to Kickstarter, Pledge manager, and all the other charges/fees we incur straight after the campaign ends which we cannot reclaim. Once we have started fulfiling/packing your pledge for shipment, we cannot provide any refunds.
