Frequently Asked Questions
The books are printed in Canada, which means that they must be shipped from here. Canada does not have the traffic that the US does, so we do not have the same rates for shipping domestically or internationally.
Please keep in mind that you are supporting a project that is not part of a major corporation like amazon. The book is 8.5x11 inches, 200 pages, weighing approximately 2.8 pounds. It needs to be packaged in a slightly larger envelope or packing box as well. The shipping, handling and packaging costs listed are the most affordable rates that are available that will ensure the book is delivered to you undamaged.
I want the campaign to be successful, so that means making the options accessible for people to support the book, not to make it a deterrent. The costs are the base costs necessary to ship out the book. These costs include the handling and packaging costs as well. I spent a lot of time looking for solutions to the shipping and the service being used is offering the best rates. Please keep in mind they are in Canadian and not American dollars. Right now the dollar in Canada is low, at approx 39-40$ USD for 50$ CAD.
Here is link to give an idea of costs to ship from Canada. International shipments are not going out via Canada post but via courier services for tracking, which is more expensive in general but the company being used to distribute is able to offer courier shipping rates at a significantly discounted rate (between 67-70% less than what would normally be paid).
At this time, the book is only available to the campaign backers. There has been interest in the book by two different publishing companies. However even if they took the manuscript today, the book would not be on the shelves for at least 2 years, if not longer. It is very important to me to get this book out this year. The campaign will cover the costs of a limited first edition printing. Future editions will depend either on the success of the campaign to allow for additional printing, or the production and distribution by a future publisher.Last updated:
Ebooks are dependent on many factors. If the project is very successful it might be a stretch goal, but if it just supports enough books for this years edition, the exclusive rights to the ebook would possibly be for future printing with the publishers. So much depends on the results and outcome of the campaign. I can confirm that there will not be a reward option during the campaign that is the ebook on its own. If it were to be a stretch goal, it would be an added gift to those who have already backed the printed book.Last updated:
There is now a reward for 2 copies!
However if you want more than the 2, but less than the shipment of 10, what I've done with some backers already when they've asked to add an additional book or two is to add the cost of the reward + shipping to your pledge. Then when the campaign has ended I will be contacting everyone to confirm shipping information, and double check on the pledges that have additional amounts. You can update me as to whether or not you want the 2 (or more) books sent to you, or to different addresses.
If the books are being grouped to send to a singular address, you can subtract $4.50 from the shipping costs per book (for the additional books), because the packaging and handling fees will be reduced to the singular parcel.
For example: If you want to get 3 books to Canada, you can select your reward for the single book, which is 55$ +15$ for shipping. You can add 110$ for 2 more books, and 21$ for shipping, which is 2 x 10.50$ (or 15$ - 4.5$).
I'm keeping a document of people that have added money on the pledge for the additional book, so when I also follow up about the address you can remind me in that email as well.
I am also able to customize additional reward options, so if its easier, just let me know and i'll add the order option that you wanted with the proper pricing to the rewards.Last updated:
