Welcome to the re-launch of All Hands on Deck! Since last October, we've been hard at work trying to shape and hone our campaign to make it even better. We have tried to focus on how we can best bring this game to all the interested backers out there, all over the world, at as reasonable a price as possible.
We are also excited to announce that this project has been chosen to be featured on BackerClub.co!
Now, on to the changes that have been made! We are proud to say our return to Kickstarter comes with a variety of new improvements, including:
- We have joined the Indie Game Alliance and have tapped into their wealth of KickStarter knowledge.
- We identified and pursued several other potential manufacturing partners and found one that will allow us to reduce the production costs while still maintaining amazing product quality.
- We developed a new mini expansion called "The Captain's Table" that introduces Captain persona cards into the game, each with their own unique player power and alternate win condition to give the game an option for even greater depth of strategy.
- We identified a new fulfillment solution that allows us to be able to provide worldwide shipping at no additional cost for the base game.
- Based on tester feedback, we redesigned the Black Viper flag iconography to make it easier to distinguish from the other two crew flags. We also brightened up the overall shading on the cards to make them more vibrant when printed. Check out the change on the Quartermaster below:
In All Hands on Deck!, each player takes the role of a pirate captain who has returned to port searching to replace lost crew members after an extended sea battle over a lost gold transport. Visiting the local tavern in search of strong sailors, they discover several other captains attempting to do the same and an all out bidding war ensues.
Each captain is trying to be the first to sign on their needed crew and set sail for the golden riches that sit within the derelict treasure ship.
You must carefully manage the crew you have on hand and outbid your opposing captains to acquire the sailors you need. You will also need to seize opportunities to play action cards where they will secure the greatest advantage at the auction block and outwit your fellow captains. Be the first to replenish your crew and put back out to sea with a shout of 'ALL HANDS ON DECK!'.
We have received a lot of great feedback from all of the conventions, game days, meetups, and preview submissions we have shared the game with. Have a look at some of the praise this game has gotten!

All Hands on Deck! is composed of 108 cards. There are two different types of cards: Pirate Crew cards and Action cards.
Pirate Crew Cards - These cards represent the remnants of
three derelict crews (suits) that have limped back to port in ships too
damaged to return to sea. There is the crew of the Stormsail, the crew
of the Sea Sabre, and the crew of the Black Viper.
Within each crew, there are ten pirate ranks (numbers 1 - 10) representing the different jobs the sailors specialize in on a seafaring crew. These cards' numeric values represent the number of gold doubloons needed to buy potential crew members' loyalty and make them a part of the ship’s company.
There are also three of each pirate rank represented in each of the three crews. For example, there are three ‘First Mate’ rank cards from the crew of the ‘Stormsail’ in the deck.
Action Cards — These are special cards that allow your Captain to influence the auction process. These cards are aimed at creating an advantage or causing problems for the other Captains. All Action Cards are played as bid cards. There are 18 total Action cards in the deck.
The goal of the game is to build a winning hand containing a suitable crew of pirates for your ship. A winning hand can be formed in one of two ways: a captain can have a run of seven ranks in one crew, or a run of three ranks in all three of the crews.
The game begins first with a dealer being chosen who then
deals out five cards to every player. Each turn thereafter, the dealer
gives each pirate captain one new card at the beginning of each turn.
The next card in the deck is then turned over and revealed. This card
is now up for auction and each of the captains places as many of their
own cards as desired face down in a blind bid for the card being
After all of the captains have placed a bid or passed, all cards that have been bid are revealed. If there are any action cards in the bid, they are each resolved individually according to the description on the card itself. These are resolved in turn order starting at the dealer's left until they have all been resolved and removed from the table.
After resolving the action cards, the value of each captains bid is added up. This is the total value of all pirate crew cards that are laid down as part of their bid (action cards are worth zero to the bid value). The captain with the highest score is awarded the card up for auction. The deal is then passed to the next captain on the left and a new turn begins.
Play continues until a pirate captain forms a winning hand and shouts "All hands on deck!"

We want to make it as easy as possible for people all over the world to get a chance to play All Hands on Deck! The challenge is that shipping costs across the world often make the transportation costs higher than the value of the item itself. We have done a lot of research trying to find the most cost effective way to be able to ship this game worldwide to you, our beloved backers.
As a result, we are VERY pleased to announce that all base game pledges will include worldwide shipping! We are able to accomplish this by keeping the game itself small in size and weight and by having the game manufactured in China and then shipped to backers directly from a fulfillment company located in China as well. This reduces the costs and time associated with shipping the games in bulk from the manufacturer in China back to the US and then packing them to send back out again to the backers. This fulfillment solution is one that has been praised recently by several successful Kickstarter campaign managers and is a perfect fit for this project.
INTERESTED RETAILERS: We want to support game retailers by offering the special KickStarter edition of our game during the campaign in bulk packages. If you are a retailer interested in 'All Hands on Deck!', then contact us directly at email@example.com for pricing information and we will tailor a package to fit your needs.
$19- Additional Game - You will receive another copy of 'All Hands on Deck!' and an additional set of any unlocked stretch goals. Just in case you can't get enough, or you have a friend you think might enjoy it as well.
$6 - Custom Salamander Dice - You will receive five of our custom six-sided dice with our favorite amphibian emblazoned upon it! Created by Chessex, these dice look and feel amazing! Currently, the design is available in red/gold and purple/white. These will be shipped from the U.S. directly from Salamander Games HQ.
$15 - Summonaria - You will receive a copy of our first game,
Summonaria. Summonaria is a game of tactical fantasy combat and resource
management that pits players and their magical armies against each other
as they try to seize control of five island strongholds. This will

about Summonaria can be found at http://www.salamandergames.com/index.php/products/summonaria
Outside the US, please add an additional $15 for shipping. These will ship directly from Salamander Games HQ in the U.S.
Here are just a couple of stretch goals we have lined up for the project. We will provide achievement level information as we get closer to project funding.
A New Mini-Expansion! - The first stretch goal of $8,000 has unlocked the new "Captain's Table" mini-expansion that has been developed just for this campaign! This optional addition to the game adds new Captain persona cards, giving each player a unique player power and additional win condition to give players additional choices and strategies while playing.
Dealer Doubloon - The next stretch goal at $8,500 unlocked our VERY stylish custom dealer doubloon for you to move around the table to mark the current dealer. A mold has already been created by the fantastic craftsmen at Campaign Coins based upon an original pirate gold design illustrated by Darren Calvert.
This piece of pirate treasure won't curse you to an existence as the undead, but it will ensure you know whose deal it is at all times! While not absolutely required for the game, we did have several people ask about a dealer marker since the deal moves around the table. We reached into the ol' treasure chest and pulled this forth! It has a great weight to it and we have enjoyed pushing the heavy sample marker across the table with a sneer as the deal moves to the next scurvy dog.
Upgrade the Deck - At $9,000, we improved the quality of the cards in the deck to the more professional quality, higher gsm cardstock available with a linen finish to give a better overall feel to the game. The cards will have a better snap and finish and that helps in making shuffling and fanning easier and just makes them look sharper!
A 7th Captain in the Expansion - When we hit the $9,500 level, we added another Captain persona card to the "Captain's Table" mini-expansion! This adds even more options when selecting a persona before the game starts and further increases the variability from game to game!
An 8th Captain in the Expansion - When we hit the $10,000 level, we added yet ANOTHER Captain persona card to the "Captain's Table" mini-expansion! The Brethren Court is now complete!!
Unleash the Kraken! - At $10,750, we introduce a special event card into the game, the dreaded KRAKEN! This beast from the depths will snatch up crewmembers and swallow them until he is banished back to his watery slumber. Beware his icy gaze...
We are a couple of long time gamers from the Oklahoma City area who have been designing games and game content in one form or another since we were kids. We both have lots of things going on between work, family, and trying to raise some young pirates of our own. Whenever possible we pursue our passion for gaming, be it playing something with the kiddos, getting together with the gaming group, or working feverishly to create something new and exciting.
We truly believe that this hobby is unlike any other and want to contribute something meaningful to it in our own way. When we decided to form a development company several years ago and seriously pursue our dream of game development, we found in it a very fulfilling endeavor that is nearly as much fun as it is work. We continue to hone our skills, learn from our experiences and work on new ideas to bring to the table!
Our endless thanks go out to everyone who has helped All Hands on
Deck! along its way from the initial bare-bones idea to the fun experience it is now
and thank you for taking the time to check us out and consider helping this campaign.
We were interviewed by the Oklahoma Game Development Blog shorly before our last Kickstarter run and got a chance to talk about gaming as a hobby and about this game in particular. Check the spot out here:
We ran the original campaign for 'All Hands on Deck!' in October of 2014 and got 62% of the way to our original goal!!! We are incredibly thankful and humbled by the support that poured in and we hope that many of you will consider backing again to help make it a success this time around.
Check out these great Avatars and use one to show off your true pirate attitude!
Risks and challenges
The game itself has long been completed and has been playtested by a diverse group of players ranging in age from 10 to 80. We continue to put it in front of players at conventions and game nights and get lots of great feedback as we do so. We really wanted to make sure it was fun for casual players and hobbyists alike, so we adjusted and streamlined it until it really felt solid time and time again.
* The process of art development and graphic design is complete and adjustments for better readability have been made.
* Development and revision of the rulebook is complete and a couple of images need only be updated to finalize it for printing.
* The box is in revision as final graphics changes are being determined and that will be finalized as the campaign winds down.
Our plan is to have it all ready to send off to the printer just as soon as the campaign is over. Even though it required a much larger personal investment to get all of the art and graphic design done before the campaign, we felt it would pay off in the speed with which we could deliver once the campaign funded.
Because we have a significant investment of our own wrapped up in this project, you can rest assured that we will make every effort to bring it to completion as the best product possible. We will keep close control over the production process and will make you, our backers, aware of changes in status, should they occur.
As soon as All Hands on Deck! rolls off the presses and is shipped and delivered to our fulfillment locations, we will be fulfilling your Reward levels FIRST - before any other sales and distribution fulfillment - meaning that you will be the first to get the game in your hands and on your table! We realize that confidence in our efforts and in the process are key to making this a successful collaboration and we intend to deliver above and beyond what is necessary to the very best of our ability.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
