Salad Dash was created to bring healthy affordable food to more people. After testing and growing a customer base, we're ready to expand! With a little love we can expand to more Farmers Markets & have a kick ass website that will allow for same day delivery. Now that we have a feel of the flow, it will be a fun challenge to expand and create a team!
Meet Jacob and Jordan. You'll hardly ever see us together because Jacob works 50 hours a week as a Bar Manager so that Jordan can run Salad Dash. We can't wait until Jacob can join us full time!
Salad Dash has been busy making a new family this year, a Farmers Market Family that is! With so many amazing people and businesses at Uptown Farmers Market and my shared community kitchen to bounce ideas and thoughts off of, Salad Dash has been able to "find itself". We know where we want to be and what it looks like to get us there.
We think calculated organic growth is where it's at. The delivery industry is constantly changing and evolving. Too soon to have a brick and mortar although it's always on our mind ;). A new permit will allow us to assemble custom salads on site! This is a GAME CHANGER for us. Our current permit only allows us to make the salads in the shared kitchen and restricts us from even opening a container on site. Imagine all the picky eaters we're missing out on! They want salad too! Not to mention the cost to package all meat, dairy, moist makers, gluten and nuts on the side of each salad!
Being healthy is more than a trend. There's a huge problem with the processed items we call food. Cancer rates are at an all time high and tons of carcinogens are found in our food!
Cancer sucks. Watching my extremely fit and healthy mom go through so much pain was a huge eye opener.
While dealing with hair loss, lack of appetite, no sense of taste, and extreme nausea, I remember her saying that it felt like her bones were stretching. This is something that no person should have to feel.
I've since made it a goal to eat healthy and really know what I'm putting in our bodies. What I found was a complete shock. I changed my diet completely giving up LOTS of favorites that seemed "healthy".
Salad Dash believes eating healthy shouldn't cost more time, energy or money! Eventually we'll have a brick and mortar but for now, we're growing steadily :)
Risks and challenges
The restaurant industry is one of the most fickle. Keeping Salad Dash's overhead low and growing organically, we can make shifts and changes as needed before opening a brick and mortar.
A new challenge after this successful campaign will be hiring and training a team. Jordan the owner has extensive experience managing employees in an intimate office setting while Jacob is currently a Bar Manager in an corporate environment.
It will also be a new challenge to produce on a larger scale. We plan to take a slow approach and gradually add more markets, allowing for an adjustment period.
Same day delivery will be a new venture. We currently offer same day delivery through a third party structured website that dictates a cutoff time and a specific delivery rout. Getting professional assistance to design the website will be most challenging. Incorporating more days of revenue will go hand in hand with our current delivery system.
