A project to make one of a kind tracksuits inspired by a dream I had of Missy Elliott as the President of the United States of America.
THE MISSY DREAM
I’m Sakura and I am a senior studying Textiles at the Rhode Island School of Design. I have weird dreams about musicians becoming political figures.
In one of the most bizarre dreams I’ve ever had, Missy Elliott was President of the United States of America. She wore a tracksuit in the oval office, a tracksuit in the conference room, and she also had a matching air force plane to match her flying tracksuit.
THE MISSY JUMP-OFF
As a jump off of my dream, I want to make 2-3 tracksuits inspired by Missy Elliott for my senior degree project, and share this dream with all of you.
Similar to a presidential campaign, I want to make an assortment of products (pins, cups, T-shirts) in addition to the main tracksuits. As you can see from the pledge descriptions, these products will also be the rewards for my pledgers. This kickstarter will help pay for the realization of my "Missy for President" imaginary campaign.
The tracksuits will be both artistic and functional. They will be the embodiment of the fictional collaboration between Missy Elliott and I. By sharing these items with others, I hope people will remember (if they ever forget) how influential of an artist and performer she has been in our world.

THE MISSY COST:
MADE FOR MISSY
MADE FOR US
MADE IN THE USA.
The entire production of the project will happen in America to support the national businesses. The money raised on my kickstarter will go to the following:
Printing the Fabric (California,) Patternmaker and Sewer (New York,) Trims/Yarns/Other Materials for finishings, appliqué (New York,) Photographer (Rhode Island,) Missy-Prez T-shirts (Rhode Island,) Missy-Prez Cups (Florida,) Costs of Materials for Story/Lookbook (Rhode Island)
POST MISSYI don’t strive to become a performer, but I want to wrap myself, through my medium, in the energy and attitude of the performers I look up to. Their energy resonates not only in their music, but also in their attitude, their confidence on stage, their originality in their outfits. There are many ways performers have an influence in our lives.
With this project I want to bring back the lost specialty of customized clothes. We may not be the stars of the show but we will surely dress the part.
Missy For Prez T-Shirt: Will be available White, Black in Ladies S,M,L and Mens S,M,L
Missy Holla Cup with Swarovski Crystals
T-Shirt Pledgers: I will e-mail everyone at the end to confirm your order before going into printing.

Never seen a Kickstarter before and don’t know when/how the payments work? Please be aware that your cards will not be charged until the deadline of my project, April 17th 2012, given that I reach my minimum goal.
Special thanks to Jeff Lewinski for the video, and all my friends for the hollers!
Thank you all so much,
***This is not a real political campaign***
Specialize, customize. Make it and own it.
For those of you who have never seen my work before, here is a brief summary:
I’ve always had a fascination with making custom garments or outfits that could be worn to concerts. In the past I have made garments (for friends) to wear to the Jay-Z and Kanye concert, as well as for a Die Antwoord concert. These pieces are about the experience behind wearing the garment at the concert but more specifically they are tailored around a specific person.
