I attend the New York Fashion Academy in Ballard, WA. Completing the certificate program at this school is no small feat. I am *just* about there, but I have one milestone left: Ball Gown. From the website:
'Students will design, drape, and make a pattern for an original formal ball gown.'
Making a ball gown is an undertaking to say the least and there are some points that make this project a little more... spicy:
- It's timed. 30 days from the time I put fabric on a form.
- It's a graduation requirement. No pass, no certificate.
- The pass/fail grade is assigned in front of my family, peers, strangers.
- This gown will take roughly 300 hours to complete.
- I will be working part time during the project so that I may continue to have a home, ha!
I've created three ball gown illustrations for review, and the one I will make has been selected by the panel at the school:
I'm turning to you, lovely reader, to make this artistic vision a reality. Materials in high-fashion are not what most would call 'economical'. Any funding above my goal will be directed toward outfitting my work studio, which will allow me to keep making unique clothing and art that is sure to delight. Plus the rewards are stellar!
Even if you're unable to make a monetary investment at this time, it would be awesome if you could link people to this project seven ways from Sunday.
Above all - Thank you so much for your consideration! This project is so close to my heart. I've worked hard to get here and this project will be my moment of truth. I do hope you will be a part of it.

Yeah, it's crazy right? The material that I designed the dress around is $75/yard. As you can see from the design, I'm going to need A LOT. And that's just the fashion fabric! There is also lining fabric, thread, and notions. Oh, I'm making the head piece too. Add in a (discount) dress form @ $500 after shipping, half of my wages being absent for a 30-day period, rewards, taxes on the income from the kickstarter, plus their fees... This stuff adds up very quickly.
