About

New Jerusalem and other sacred drinking songs.

This project is complete. Mixed, mastered, and artwork all finished.
Our Kickstarter campaign will serve to spread the word about this collection of songs and to raise funds to recoup production and manufacturing costs.

I’m grateful that you’ve taken a moment to explore this project. If it's not something you're interested in, please consider sharing with others who might like it. Thanks!

Money raised beyond our goal will be used to recoup the 12k+ cost of the project.

It is a brand new album, and is a collection of 10 songs written and recorded as a soundtrack for everyday life. They are meant to revive and restore. This is a project that celebrates music-making in studios with gifted friends. These songs are my stories, with no message-driven manifestos. And my stories are told through my slide guitar as much as through the lyrics of the songs.

Song titles include:
New Jerusalem
When Jesus Takes You Dancing
There’ll Be No Hell to Pay
Prince of Peace
Take Me Along
Hand of Love
Faithful to Me
Only One
Mercy Pays the Toll
Jesus Knows

Although this is a very personal project, the songs are universal. Songs written and recorded through seasons that saw the joy of weddings and new babies, the loss of my older brother, the suicide of a friend, and the anguish of friends and family members enduring chronic illness and pain. Songs of gratitude and rejoicing, and loss and lament.

The stuff of all of our lives.

We worked in 4 studios in Nashville, and a church in Indianapolis IN, with 5 musicians, 5 engineers, and myself. Special thanks to sister Tera Harrell for traveling to Nashville from Birmingham, Alabama to sweeten this project with her wonderful vocals. Jeremy McCoy (bassist for The Fray during the time we were recording) worked engineering and editing, and played bass on a couple of the songs. Nathan Partain (gifted musician and madly-skilled songwriter in Indianapolis) co-produced the project with me in Nashville and Indianapolis, engineered, and played drums on 2 songs. Wolfy Johnson turned in stellar piano and organ performances. Paul Eckberg played tasty drums on 8 songs and did some engineering as well. Shane D. Wilson engineered for 2 vocal sessions in his studio St. Izzy's of the East, and mixed the project.

For those of you unfamiliar with my music, I'll say the title track (here on the project slideshow) is a middle-of-the-road representation of what we've recorded, with some edgier rock-ish songs, and a few softer.

"New Jerusalem and other sacred drinking songs" may appeal to fans of Johnny Cash, The Band, Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, and The Rolling Stones, though I hesitate to draw these comparisons, as I do not mean to infer that my artistry equals them in any way. I've made note of these comparisons drawn by others over the years, and are meant only to be simple genre identifiers.

Thanks for looking at our project, for your support, and sharing with your friends. I would enjoy any and all correspondence about this project.

Risks and challenges

This is my only current project. Production is completed and fulfillment will simply require manufacturing of cd's, signing copies for reward #5, and hand-writing lyrics for reward #6.

There are no risks, as all production is finished.
Our only real challenge is for music lovers to discover this project, and your help is appreciated!
