My name is Emerson Walker. I'm 14-years old, and attend Turpin High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. In the video with me is Will Muller, who will be a senior at Indian Hills High School. He was on my team at Cincinnati's Startup Weekend last month, where my idea, mPlanner, won first place (yes, it felt good to beat adults at their own game!)
I didn’t know what I was getting myself into, but I went for it. This has been an amazing learning experience, and a fun time.
So what is mPlanner you ask?
Most middle and high school students don't plan very effectively, and the proliferation of multiple digital calendars is making their school-issued paper planners obsolete.
School assignments are posted online, their school events calendar is on the school webpage, their sports calendar is on the fridge, their doctor appointments are on their parents’ phone, and their social events are on social media sites.
The mPlanner is a mobile app that will bring student's individual calendars together in one place.
The mPlanner syncs with assignments from school portals (such as Schoology and Blackboard), and presents each assignment to them to "triage" into a study plan.
The app also benefits parents by providing them with a parent interface, allowing instant access to their child's schedule so they can be on the same page.

What are we going to do with the money?
We're connected with a group called INTERalliance of Greater Cincinnati, which employs high school student programmers. Our plan is to work with those super-smart kids to build the app.
If we raise more than our goal, we could augment the team with more experienced and professional developers.
My dad, Ry Walker, Partner at Cincinnati venture studio Differential (http://differential.io), is formally running the project, and will manage the money..
Risks and challenges
The mPlanner is currently a work in progress. We expect some challenges in the course of building the app, as well as integrating the app with the many sites used by different schools.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
