Fantasy Football: Draft, Deals, and Dice (FF3D) (Canceled)
A 2 to 4 player card drafting and dice game that allows players to simulate a fantasy football season in a table top game.
Fantasy Football: Draft, Deals, and Dice (FF3D) is a fantasy football themed card drafting and dice rolling tabletop game for 2-4 players that can be played in 60-90 minutes.
Unlike most football-themed board games, which rely on play-calling and full roster management to simulate the coach or general manager of a real football team, FF3D focuses strictly on replicating the fantasy football player’s experience during a football season. The simplified fantasy football theme allows the game to be quick and easy to learn, while also being challenging enough to engage more advanced players.
In FF3D, players will feel like every game is recreating a brand new fantasy football season. During the game, owners will draft their fantasy teams from a randomized pool of players, manage player injuries, take advantage of player hot streaks, add players from waivers, make trades, set weekly rosters, and compete against other owners in Head-to-Head matchups.
The game features a unique player randomization mechanic to determine the value of the players at the start of each game, which enables every season to take on its own identity.
All Backers that pledge $39 or more will receive a full copy of the Fantasy Football: Draft, Deals, and Dice game, including all stretch goals earned throughout the campaign.
Each game includes the following components:
- 64 Player Boards (3mm cardboard punches)
- 112 Skill and Upside Ratings (3mm cardboard punches)
- 24 In-Game Event Cards (Tarot-sized greycore playing cards)
- 64 Player Event Cards (Tarot-sized greycore playing cards)
- 8 Team Cards (Tarot-sized greycore playing cards)
- 24 Six-Sided Numbered Dice (16 Green & 8 Red)
- 40-Page Double-Sided Box Score Pad
- 64 Plastic Bonus Cubes (32 Green & 32 Red)
- 8-Page Rule Book
- 6 Game Tokens (4 Draft Pick; 1 Waiver; 1 Coin Flip; 3mm cardboard punches)
- Cardboard Tray Box Organizer
- Tuck Boxes For All Cards & Baggies For Components
The blank squares in the sample Player Cards will be replaced with the Skill and Upside Ratings for the final production artwork (detailed below).
The quantity and quality of the components can also be improved if we meet certain stretch goals, as detailed below.
Every little bit helps, but you will need to pledge at least $39 to receive a full copy of the final production version of the game, including all stretch goals earned during this campaign.
Check out the graphics below to view detailed descriptions of the reward options that are available for purchase through your base pledge.
You can download the current version of the PnP here. The improved PDF file that you will receive for this pledge will feature the same design, sizes, and artwork that will be included in the manufactured version of the game.
This means that receiving the copy of the game, including all stretch goals earned, will cost you $39 in the USA, $54 in Canada, and $64 in the European Union.
Backers at this level will submit a survey to provide their preferences during a draft for team and position choices. The "draft order" for these options will be determined by the order of your pledges, so you have a better chance of getting the team or position you want if you pledge early! You can read more details about the process and what information will be added into the game on our website.
Backers at this level will also receive a custom 2" diameter Kickstarter-edition, laser-cut, wooden Coin Flip Token with their Player's Image used as the "heads" side of the coin.
Choice of team colors will be determined in order of the Backer's pledge. For more details on what the Team Owners get to decide on for their teams, check out this post on our website.
Backers at this level will also receive a custom 3" diameter Kickstarter-edition, laser-cut, wooden Coin Flip Token with their Owner's Image used as the "heads" side of the coin. Your coin will be 50% larger than the Token received by the Players in the game!
You will be drawn into the game on the Team's Card and be included in every game as a secondary character, similar to our broadcaster, referee, and cheerleader characters below. You will receive a PDF of the image to use for your own purposes and be forever featured and remembered in the FF3D Hall of Fame with a full biography as a founding Team Owner.
There are also additional add-on items available for purchase by increasing the amount of your base pledge.
These will be two separate 12-team fantasy football leagues, with one AFC-Only and one NFC-Only league playing out the season separate from each other. After Week 17, the top two teams in each league will come together for the playoffs to determine the league champion. For more details on the structure of this league, check out these two posts on our website.
If we fill our first league with 22 Backers, a second league will be created to accommodate additional Backers at this level with the same rules and roster settings.
Because we can save on shipping rates by sending you more copies of the game, we want to pass the savings on to you! Shipping rates do not change for multiple orders, so US Backers can still have multiple games shipped for FREE.
Canadian and European Backers will still be asked to pay shipping costs for any additional games on the same order. The change in cost from shipping multiple games doesn't quite provide enough savings to allow for free international shipping on the second (or 5th!) game, but you will still save $7 on each additional game ordered.
A great option for anyone that loves the artwork for the game and wants to see themselves drawn in a similar style. You will get to decide your position, pose, jersey number, and team colors for your image. The final image will be identical to the Player Card layout for the players in the game and you will receive the files necessary to put yourself into your own game at home.
This differs from the $99 pledge option because your image will not be included in every copy of the game. However, you will receive a framed print of your image and you will also get to have your guaranteed choice of teams and position as the model used for the image, with no competition for your preferences from other Backers.
Unfortunately, it is not cost effective to ship the framed print outside of the United States, so International Backers at this level will only receive the high quality PDF of their image to print themselves.
To order an add-on item, simply increase the amount of your pledge by the amount of the add-on item you'd like to purchase.
- To manage your pledge and order an Add-On item, click the "Manage Your Pledge" button above. If you have not yet pledged, it will say "Back This Project."
- Then, increase your pledge in the "Pledge Amount" box by the amount of the Add-Ons you would like to receive with your order.
- At the end of the Kickstarter campaign, you will receive a survey that will allow you to decide how your extra Pledge amount will be distributed and which Add-Ons you would like to purchase.
All Backers, regardless of their pledge amount, will also get invited to our Kickstarter-only FF3D Confidence League!
The FF3D Kickstarter Confidence League has a similar promotion and relegation system to the English Premier League, so I think it is a really fun concept to try out with a large group of dedicated fantasy football fans. This is a great chance to meet and compete with our other Backers who share your passion for fantasy football while the game is being produced.
There is no tangible prize for winning, but the weekly and seasonal winners will be featured in the weekly updates that are sent out to all Backers, so you might achieve a very small level of celebrity among other FF3D fans!
For more details on the structure and details of the league, check out this post.
The concept for Fantasy Football: Draft, Deals, and Dice involves a few new game mechanics to make the game feel like fantasy football and still allow the game to be regenerated with a new player pool every game.

Here is an excerpt from a review of the game by Andrew Smith from Married Gamers:
"This complexity is the kind of stuff fantasy football players eat up. The game is so well balanced the first time we played the entire season came down to the last die I rolled. (I lost.) It was unbelievably intense, which is crazy, because FF3D is essentially a game, based on a game, which is based on a game." ~ Andrew Smith, The Married Gamers
The creator of FF3D was interviewed by MGG Cast about the game. You can read the interview by clicking this link.
The 7-Page PDF of the current Print and Play version of the game is currently available for free download by clicking this link:
With this file, you can start playing a game of FF3D within 20 minutes! You just need to add your own dice and two colors of centimeter cubes or small tokens from another game to play an entire season.
While this PnP version is available for free to the public, only Backers that pledge $12 or more will receive the high quality final artwork version of the PnP prior to the game's production.
The final Rule Book will have full graphics and game play examples.

We will also have some third party reviews and additional game play videos added to the campaign shortly!
To get a great game, of course! Your pledge will also help us reach certain stretch goals so that we can improve the quality of the game for every Backer!
If we reach a funding level higher than our initial $15,000 ask, the game's components, artwork, and materials have the potential to be upgraded for every single game.
Basically, if we get enough support for the game, we can reduce our manufacturing costs and create an even better product for all of our Backers. The tiers of stretch goals available are detailed below.
Our Social Goals are goals that you can help us reach without making a full pledge to this campaign. If you want to help make this game succeed, we would greatly appreciate your support by sharing our campaign on your social media accounts. With your help, reaching these goals will improve the quality and quantity of the components included in every game!

Additional Benefits From Making Your Pledge!
Part of your $39+ pledge to this campaign will include $10 in built-in shipping costs to all Backers in the United States (+$15 to Canada and +$25 to EU) that will not be included for purchases after this campaign. This means your pledge includes a $10 discount on shipping costs that won't be available to you after the campaign is over!
You will also get the luxury of getting the game first, before anyone else outside of Kickstarter is even able to order the game. After this campaign, the public may pre-order the game (at a higher price), but their products will not be delivered until after every Backer of this campaign has received their game.
So, if you make a pledge to our campaign, not only do you help us make this game come to life, you will also get the game cheaper and faster than anyone else!
This game was mostly developed out of frustration. It was only Week 4 and already three of my top five picks were out for the year with injuries, I lost all three of my match-ups by a total of seven points, and I was 0-3 to start my season. It was going to be a long year.
Basically, I had a lot of these...
Even though roughly 90% of fantasy teams fail to win their league's title, there is nothing better than the start of a fantasy football season. Everyone is optimistic about their chances to win the league because they definitely drafted the best team. Everyone thinks they are going to have a great year.
I developed this game so it would be possible to get that same feeling at any time, without the frustration of being locked into a losing lineup for the rest of the season and having to wait almost an entire year to draft a new team. In FF3D, you could potentially win or lose an entire fantasy football season in the time it takes between the end of the 4pm EST games and the Sunday Night game.
The game has gone through more than a dozen different variations to get to this point. Our BoardGameGeek Works-In-Progress page has details regarding the development of the concept and how we managed to iron out the design and game play questions that came up during testing.
We have tried to project realistic expectations regarding costs to ensure we are able to actually afford to deliver the product internationally, while still giving international Backers a chance to get the game early at a discounted rate.
US Backers will have their products shipped domestically by Amazon with FREE shipping during this campaign only. After the campaign, shipping costs will be increased to $10 per game for all customers.
Backers in Canada (+$15) and the European Union (+$25) will be asked to add an additional amount to cover the additional shipping costs when making their pledge for the full game. Canadian rewards will be shipped from within Canada and EU rewards will be shipped from within the EU (both through Amazon) to avoid additional customs charges for these Backers.
This means the "true cost" for Canadian Backers will be $54, while European Backers will pay $64 for a copy of the full game at the base pledge level.
For backers outside of the USA, Canada, and the EU, I hope you will consider our $12 pledge level for a Final Artwork PnP of the game prior to production. This ensures that you will still be able to play the game and means a lot towards helping us reach our funding goal. If we have enough international backers from your region interested in the game at this pledge level, our team will make arrangements to ensure international delivery will be available to your region when the full game hits the market next year.
SEMA Games is an independent board game company based in Durham, North Carolina. The founder of SEMA Games, Ryan Mentock, graduated from North Carolina State University (NCSU) in 2006 and received his Masters of Business Administration from George Washington University (GWU) in 2014. While enrolled at GWU, Ryan developed the concept for several unique games and started SEMA Games after graduation to make his game ideas a reality.
Ryan has been an avid fantasy sports player for twenty years and is the current commissioner of two highly active fantasy leagues. He started his first fantasy football league when he was twelve years old by entering data from the weekly newspaper into a spreadsheet and has been playing fantasy sports ever since. Ryan lives in Durham, North Carolina with his wife, dog, and cat.
John Moriarty is a freelance artist with a background in illustration and graphic design, having graduated from the Hussian School of Art in 2001. Since then, he has worked for a variety of companies and publishers delivering creative and dynamic artwork of all kinds. His passion for sports, and football in particular (Go 49ers!), made him a good fit for this game project. His previous experience designing card sets for Fleer Trading Cards, as well as designing plush dolls of athletes for Bleacher Creatures, made him the first pick in SEMA Games' draft. You can find his artwork on www.johnmoriartyart.com.
Risks and challenges
This is our first project, so there are likely to be unexpected problems that come up when doing anything for the first time. However, we have done our research and studied other Kickstarter projects for several years before launching our own campaign for this game. We have learned all we possibly can without actually going through it ourselves, so we hope to learn a lot from the experience. We feel that we have the ability to solve any problems that may present themselves along the way.
As far as potential problems or delays, the first bottle neck in the production process will be obtaining the customized files and survey responses from our Backers who pledged to put themselves into the game. After the campaign is over, our artist will be unable to finalize the artwork and card designs until we have received a photo of each Backer at the $99+ pledge level, as well as their response to the Team/Position Draft survey. This creates a potential variable on the production timeline that is outside of our direct control, but should be fairly smooth if we receive all responses within a reasonable amount of time.
Production hurdles involve coordinating manufacturing in China with Panda Games and ensuring timely delivery to domestic and international distributors. Because of the expected weight of the game, the distribution for the game will be handled through Amazon and its international distribution centers. Since the overall process will be new to us, we anticipate a learning curve in navigating Amazon's detailed fulfillment requirements. This is expected and our time has been scheduled accordingly.
Probably the biggest challenge we will have overall will be getting the word out about our game, so we need your help! If you like this project and want to see it come to life, we would greatly appreciate your support on social media by letting your friends know about our campaign! Every little bit counts and can even help improve the game by allowing us to reach our social media stretch goals.
