WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
This is a Kickstarter project to fund the manufacture of plastic minis for the expansion sets of High Heavens. Earlier this year, High Heavens was successfully funded (see the project here), and backers helped not only fund the game production but also reached every single Stretch Goal... EXCEPT ONE. While the "Core Set" and basic expansions were to initially ship with chipboard standups, Stretch Goals funded plastic minis for all 24 gods in the Core Set. However, the top goal would have allowed for minis to be made for the Egyptian set as well. The final 24 hours of our last project went gangbusters and it was a real nail-biter, watching the funding total tick UP while the clock ticked down. Just as we were about to hit the final goal (unlocking minis for the Egyptian set) the project ran out of time. Here is the funding graph of the whole project... look at those final days!
We raised $66,000 and fell shy of the final goal by about $6,000. Backers immediately brainstormed on how to reach the goal. Many individuals offered to plainly pay more while others rallied other backers to pitch in. Some backers offered up a great idea: do another Kickstarter to close the gap. The backers spoke, and I listened.
It took me months to wrap my head around doing another project so quickly, but one thing in particular really started nagging at me. Now that the Core Set was coming with all of the premium parts (chips, playmat, 24 miniatures) the whole vision of the game as a platform was fractured by having expansions that were chipboard and not 3d miniatures. I was not content thinking about moving amazing Thor and Ares minis around the board to battle against cardboard cutouts of the Egyptian gods.
This project will fund the 12 minis needed to upgrade the Egyptian expansion.
If you would like, there are pledge levels that includes the entire High Heavens game universe, making it easy to get into the game.
SHORT AND SWEET
Since we were so close to funding these minis already, the needs of this project are modest. I am going to keep this deadline short and the goal as low as possible. As was the case last time, I am willing to self invest a good portion of this project but need your help hitting the goal. We need $9000 total, but the low goal of $2000.00 is to ensure success and hopefully get people excited to keep the funding going up to the full amount. I have already funded the creation of all of the sculpts knowing that this project will be a success.
This will NOT be the kind of Kickstarter that has tons of Stretch Goals, lots of Pledge Levels and swag galore. This is utilitarian in nature and we will keep it simple.
What is the difference between the plastics and resins?
The plastic minis will be the same quality as the ones that appear in the Core Set box (Norse and Greek). They will be Sand colored and made of a high durometer (hardness) plastic and be one, single piece of plastic.
The resins are of a higher, hobbyist quality. These are not included in the expansion, but like last time, are available as separate reward tiers for those that enjoy the miniature figure hobby. These will be shipped in multiple parts to allow for higher resolution and more customization. They are in the same scale as Warmachine and Warhammer generally, but not only are those scales fluctuating constantly, I also wanted these gods to appear as GODS when placed next to mere mortals. They are larger than standard humans is the 28/32mm heroic scale (though as you see below, that is not always true. Here is a reference for scale.
All 38 resin gods will be made available as a la carte add ons at $17.00 per resin mini. Images will be posted soon.
Since I am not part of a large publishing/distribution group, I am subsidizing shipping myself in order to keep the rates as seen above. As many project owners have experienced, shipping is incredibly expensive for a small developer and therefor shipping is as stated above..
Please note that some backers have been recommending use of www.comgateway.com as a way to avoid large international shipping fees. I have not used them personally but they are highly rated on the web. Please follow the link to learn details, but basically they give you a US address to mail to and therefore receive free shipping from me, but then offer highly reduced rates to international destinations.
Risks and challenges
95% Of the Egyptian paintings and minis are complete. The Core Set and other expansions are already making their way to the manufacturer. The challenges that I see right now are:
a) I want this game to be evergreen, so the expansion teams need to be balanced and airtight. This takes time and playtesting. I would like to get all of this wrapped asap, but organizing professional-grade playtests have proven challenging in the past.
b) Kickstarter Projects take a lot of time and energy, and that will be cutting into my actual High Heavens production. To minimize risk here, I am setting the timeline to only two weeks to try to reduce down-time on the project and have enlisted some assistance.
c) As you have probably seen on other Kickstarter projects, there are often production, manufacturing and shipping delays for small, boutique projects such as this. I will do my best to minimize exposure... but sometimes things happen that are out of one's control.
